There are ways of avoiding sharing out info - you can meet up somewhere you don't go regularly, and arrange everything online (that's what I did for my first time with a man). In any case, he doesn't have anything to gain by exposing you, but it can be arranged to keep your info private. You'd have to meet at a hotel or at his place.

Meeting a total stranger to possibly try something about which you are extremely nervous through the intervention of an "online acquaintance", I.e., another total stranger, does not strike me as a brilliant idea.
