Watchin’ the tie-eye-ides roll away,

Thinking that when politics makes strange bedfellows, one only has a larger herd…

* On the topic of the English selling some dock space and an unloading business to Arab business men. *

From a purely economic viewpoint, it is a good deal.

Does this mean now that both ends of the political aisle now admit that we have an enemy who is engaging us?

This company survived the established vetting process; how many Arab countries have done that, and in what fields; maybe chemical or some other heavy industrial project that might involve explosives?

If this is strictly a preventative measure involving profiling and the “possibility” of foul play, what was the hue and cry, from the Left over wiretapping the enemies communications?

Is it okay to stop every Arab or Muslim with a bag or bulky clothing for a search before entering a subway?

Can anyone point out the “bag or bulky” clothing with “this” company?

They do the same thing, perform the same service in Europe, but I don’t see Europe in a panic; nor anywhere else in the world.

Where was the Left’s outcry when a known enemy purchased the rights to control access to the Panama Canal?

I know why elements of the right are upset, that’s the religious and the isolationist Xenophobes, like the Libertarians, but is this just a case of The Left lashing out at a traditional enemy and favorite boogey man “Big Business” in a new-found sense of Patriotism seeing an advantage to be gained in an election year by looking “tough tough tough tough tough” on their natural enemy who happens just to be from the “wrong” part of the world; i.e., they are Arabs and Muslim (presumed to be of a Fundamentalist Sect since they represent a clear and present danger by their very presence)?

For the Left, it is very easy to imagine that Evil Big Business would shoot itself in the foot in the name of Religion, because they pretty much hate Religion too! For them, this issue is a no-brainer; for some of my friends on the right, you gotta wonder if you suddenly find yourself firmly in the Democrat ranks. I just don’t see a country turning itself into the Mecca of Investing repeating something as disastrous and devastating to both mutually-dependent economies as was the famous “Oil Embargo (which was NEVER repeated),” in short, we are dealing with the people who are hated by the Jihadists too! They've been on the receiving end; as we go, so do they...

;) ;)

i don't know what this thread is about because the post was longer than my attention span.

Mine too. It took me six tries to get it all down!

I'll be watchin' when the day is through...

I'm not the smart brother.

;) ;)

six tries? :D

well, i gave it one try...and unless it comes in an illustrated, large pring version, one try is all it gets!

Did you mean to say large prong version?

:D :D :D

We have emerging butterflies in a tubular tent and many new illustrations to go with them. Do you prefer water-color, marker, or crayon? They's Painted Ladies...

crayon!
you seem more the crayon type.

big blunt ones that you can't fit up your nose!

If you wouldnt be an asshole

I would answer you

But since you are

I wont

Let the thread be full of silly Dolf

I would even post a cute satire on this issue

But I will post it on the other thread

no need to make this interesting

It's not being an asshole, but being brutally honest, even when I agree with you, you sigline and bashing staccato style force me to distance myself lest I be lumped with you as a mindless knee-jerk neo-con instead of a guy trying to muddle through the thing for himself based upon what he's come to believe in.

My colored Painted Ladies are to DIE for!

Loony Libess...

it doesnt matter how you say what you say

you are lumped in

LIT is LIB

were you or I to post on Freep, we would ahve different styles and would just blend in

Here we stick out

White House Issues New Port Security Guidelines
by Scott Ott

(2006-02-21) — In an effort to quiet concerns in Congress and elsewhere over a deal that would have a Dubai-based company running six major U.S. sea ports, the White House today released new security guidelines for vessels and crews.

The new measures, based on the popular Transportation Security Administration (TSA) protocols, “will keep the homeland safe while demonstrating our cultural sensitivity by allowing our Arab friends to control these major access points to our country,” according to White House spokesman Scott McClellan.

“Every friendship requires vulnerability,” Mr. McClellan said. “We demonstrate our love for our friends in the United Arab Emirates by trusting them, without regard to previous wrongs.”

The White House spokesman acknowledged that love, by definition, often results in pain, but added, “it’s better to have loved and lost a major metropolitan area, than never to have loved at all.”

Here are the new guidelines that Dubai Ports World will use to ensure security when it runs the ports in New York and New Jersey, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Miami and New Orleans.

– Crew members of outgoing vessels must remove their shoes, and place any metalic items in the tug boat bin.
– Ship captains will be asked to affirm that no one unknown to them has asked them to transport any cargo, and that the shipping containers have been in their possession throughout their journey.
– Captains must stay with their ships at all times. Unattended ships may be confiscated and subject to search.
– Although 95 percent of cargo passes through U.S. ports un-inspected, Arab port officials have the authority to hand-wand and pat down the cargo and crew of any vessel if they suspect the presence of nuclear, chemical or biological weapons.
– Ship crews may not joke about bombs or other weapons while in port. For example, the following witty banter is prohibited:
Q: How many jihadists on board a Maltese-flagged ship does it take to set off an electromagnetic pulse that disables every communication and power circuit in New York, bringing the Great Satan to his knees?
A: It takes two jihadists: one to distract the Arab port-security official by removing his head, and the other to disembark with the nuclear device and take a taxi to Wall Street for detonation among the infidels.

some people appreciate silly dolf!

i have inane and pointless down to a fine art.

If you wrote the original post, I must say it is a good one. It points to the sheer hypocracy of so many.

Yes, this is no different then RACIAL PROFILING that so many would have heart attacks were it to be official policy

But this is more, or should be more then a mere economic transaction

There is NO reason for this deal to go thru. The Bush administration and the GOP will suffer at the polls if it does go thru. If there is a vote in Congress, there is no way it will go thru

One of the problems the US and Iraq face in turning that counrty on the right oath, is infiltration of their departments by the crazies

There is EVERY expectation the same will happen here.

When you say the "survived" the vetting process, you dont know what it was.

Better safe then sorry,

STOP THE DEAL

and PROFILE EVERY SINGLE MUSLIM/ARAB IN OUR COUNTRY AND COMING IN HERE

and least then Gore will have something to bitch about

No one will remember this in November; a few will remember, Cheney shot a lawyer, I wish he was runnin' for somethin' so I could vote for him...

;) ;)

IF you wrote it, then its very good

The contradictions in the Dems and Repoz are so obvious

sorta like when Clitman Bombed Iraq in 1998 and the Repoz BOOED and the Dums cheered

No Congressman will vote for this when it comes up for a vote, or they will DIE as they should

GYM TIME, YOU

I was gonna say asshole but till shown otherwise will just say asshole :D

Europe has taught us quite a lot actually; there's more danger from the home grown variety of nutcase which already has access to a wide range of materials, especially in Rural America...

A reasonable solution would be a thourough examination of the company, so order a delay, get some facts out, give the people a better chance to make an informed decision, not a panicked one.

We have been admonished, "Think how you look to the rest of the world." Now the "rest of the world" is in pretty much the same boat and have been doing business with this particular company; I think they've probably had lots of scrutiny by now, but a little more won't hurt, I agree, but we come off as anti-Arab and anti-Islam when we reject the ovurtures of the moderate element based on nothing more elaborate than, "well, maybe..."

Maybe my dawg will learn to shit diamonds.

"Well maybe" was good enough to justify the war Iraq.

This exposes homeland security as a total farce.

This is to Homeland Security policy what "Harriet Miers" was to judidicial appointments.

We have tapes of them talking about the late into the 90's when they were making monkeys of the UN (further strengthening the JIhadist movement since it's zeal comes from the peceived weakness of the West which thsy still equate with Christiandom, which truly is weak).

We have the "Christian" Iraqi general saying WMD material were flown to Syria in stripped out passenger jets in part of an aid effort in Syria.

We were told we were going to prevent Saddam from aquiring WMD's (which he can now probably do if the basic premis is the nuts run Islam) and we did...

And looked strong at the same time.

The basic premise is we shouldn't outsource our intelligence or security control to anyone, let alone countries who have had ties to terrorism as much as the UAE has.

I said a delay and an investigation would not be an unwelcome outcome; but the rush to an anti-Arab position could have an unwelcome outcome indeed. It is a time to proceed with caution, not burn bridges.
