Actually, as it turns out, the acronym is SESTAMIBI, whatever that means.

I underwent one today; I have been "treaded," as the folks in the biz put it. They shot a vein full of sparklies-- radioactive thallium, I believe-- obtained an image of the heart muscle's perfusion, ran my ass off on a treadmill, more sparklies, more image. The victims call it a cardiac stress test. If I hadn't gotten my heart rate up there by means of the treadmill, they were going to whip me with pharmaceuticals to raise the heart rate artificially.

I got the results late this afternoon. "Excellent heart," said the cardio doc. "Heart of a teenager." This is technical language, of course, for no perfusion deficits.

So I am pretty darn pumped. Woo hoo! Fifty-one and the heart is still available to be abused with nicotine and poor eating habits! All fuckin right! Ban fuckin zai!

You have the heart of a teenager and the mind of a ... well, I don't know. How old is your mind?

The skin tone of a teenager would be nice, but that is now spent.

You have the heart of a teenager? That's a bit mean! Surely the teenager in question's gonna need that heart?

Nobody passes through an age, carson, when their mind is like mine is. Not even I.

I've learned to adjust.

Rejoice with me. I shall be insufferable about this for at least a week.

Actually, I took sestamibi to be a substance. See:
http://health.allrefer.com/health/thallium-sestimibi-stress-tests.html

Thallium and Sestamibi Stress Tests
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alternate Names : MIBI Stress Test, Sestamibi and Thallium Stress Tests

Definition

Thallium and sestamibi stress tests are nuclear imaging methods that provide a view of the blood flow into the heart muscle. The thallium and sestamibi tests are also called MIBI stress test and myocardial perfusion scintigraphy, and are used to evaluate how well your heart is perfused (supplied with blood) at rest as compared with activity.

During these tests, heart images can be obtained because the patient receives an injection of a substance that is labeled with a radioactive marker or radiotracer to make it visible in the bloodstream. These substances are also called radiopharmaceuticals, and include thallium-201 and technetium-99m MIBI or sestamibi.

In comparison to the standard treadmill stress test, thallium and sestamibi stress tests are more accurate and provide additional information.

Regardless, mucho good news, my friend!

Yay for Cant!

Glad to hear it, friend.
It's obvious from your AVs and your political chatter that you have a good heart.
I'm glad the guys in white coats could see it too.

Thanks, yui, deev, imp, Rob. I had chest pains over the weekend. My sister took me to the ER, it was very anxiety-provoking. But all is well as ends better.

Big mother relief, I can tell you. Better news than I probably deserve. But that doesn't keep me from gloating to myself. And to you.

I did the chest pain freak out thing once.

Hindsight being 20/20, I realized days later that I'd mounted an under-the-cabinet microwave oven the day before having the chest pain. Must've strained every muscle across my upper chest.

I used to fear the white coats. I was too strange to feel secure about it. I wear the mahsk, as Bertie says, a bit better now.

Thanks for joining the revelry. I had thought the only way I'd ever have the heart of a teenager was to keep one in a jar, on my desk. This is a revelation to me. :)

thank my daughter....3am is not a time I'm usually acquainted with!!!*L*

*hugs*

Well that is indeed good news Cant.

Cat

P.S. I always thought there were better ways to get the old heart rate up than the treadmill or drugs. A cute nurse disrobing would do it. (Although I'm sure they don't do this for liability reasons. It would do to either have the nurse attacked, or the patient falling over from a heart attack.)
