Following on from the Voices in the Hangout thread, the wonderful rendition of Ilkley Moor by the AH barber shop octet and my scary attempts at reproducing music, I thought I'd start a singing in the hangout thread.

Was curious to see if any of us had musical talent as well as literary talent. To scare you all and to make everyone else feel better about their voice, here's my attempt at music.

Do you really want to hear me sing?

if you do I'll record a burst of something later.

It will have to come with a warning label on it though *L*

very brave of you to go first Earl love!

I don't know if I'd be brave enough to do that or not, lol. I haven't sang in front of people in several years.

Well, you've got my scary ballad to make you certain that you're not the worst singer here.

The really bad news is that Lou thought it was quite good when I sent it to her to host. And that kind of praise has just encouraged me to croon another into my microphone. We'd best hope that I have an interest in keeping my friends here and thus don't put any more up. :)

Earl..you've not heard me yet...I really am that bad. I must work out what to sing too.

Ooooh the pressure! ;)

That's a bad thing? ;)

Seriously, quit the self-deprication, it's really good!

And, no, I doubt I'll be inflicting any more of my singing on the AH anytime soon.

I can't post links to any of my songs, because they're somewhere that gives away my true identity (god I sound like fucking batman).

I write and record music the whole time. Went through a period of singing too, though I don't particularly like my voice.

I get my rocks off playing music, more than anything. Better than sex for me. I mean if I had to choose.

I had a great time over Xmas playing piano at a big family party and singing into the wee hours. After me and another guy had hogged the piano all night, one of the guys persuaded his daughter to go up and play.

She was a stunning looking whispy girl, and she was really shy about getting up and playing after us "pros". Then she sat doen, and played this wild, electrifying Rachmaninoff and Lizst. She looked about 16, but she must have been older, because she was at university. I bet most of the guys there probably had trouble getting to sleep that night.

I wonder wether Joe W will post him and ernie singing "I don't want to live on the moon."

:D

That would be well worth hearing again!

I have a recording that I might be willing to link if someone walked me through the process (and if I can get my husband's okay on it, because he's on the recording too). It doesn't sound like I normally do because I was roleplaying a drunk orcish sorority girl at the time. (Usually I sound like a drunk elven sorority girl.) But I'm game if someone else will do the techie stuff.

Lou's been kind enough to host my little bitty sea shanty. will prolly do something on the dulcimer and post that some time soon.
i love hearing all of you...coolness!

I'll email you the URL for posting it, Vella, just as soon as I've converted it to an MP3 and uploaded it to my server. I thought those on dial-up might thank me for it. :D

Won't be long now.

*applause, applause* Earl, aren't you just multi-talented! I was all prepared to smile gamely through it and give you an attaboy, but what a pleasant surprise! You have a very clear—and please don't take this wrong way—but you have a very pretty voice. Not to say it's girly, at all, but it's very pretty. :)

Kassi,

Email it over to me (I'll PM you the addie), then I'll upload it to my server, then give you the link for posting it here, for others to download.

Preferably an MP3, but a .wav will be ok.

Joe - if you have a mike plugged into your computer, why don't you record something just for us? Don't leave me alone out here!

I feel like the guy who goes out onto the empty dancefloor and no-one comes with him.

I think all we have are MP3's. I'll have to wait for the husband to wake up, get his permission, and then see. I might be able to get it over to you tonight, but bet more on tomorrow or the next day. Thanks!

Earl and Vella,

That was marvellous. If anybody wanted to hear me sing, you should have taken the chance at the Christmas thread. :p

I don't think I'll torture you lot again.

:D
