Hello Everyone!
I'm trying to compile a list of songs that have a theme of saints and sinners, angels and devils, etc. So far, I have:

Angels and Devils by Toby Lightman
Hand Me Downs by Indigo Girls
Church by Lyle Lovett
Devil Went Down to Georgia
Sympathy for the Devil
Jesus is Just Alright
My Sweet Lord
Son of a Preacher Man

Anyone have any more?

:)

isn't there a song from the nineties about "she talks to angels" (but really, she's a fucked up junkie, as i recall)

One of my favorites, because I'm so jaded, is Iris Dement's song;

You say that you're born again
cleansed of your former sins
You want me to say "I forgive and forget"
But you've done too much to me
Don't you be touching me,
go back and touch all those women you've made

Chorus:
'cause God may forgive you, but I won't
Yes, Jesus loves you, but I don't
They don't have to live with you and neither do I
You say that you're born again, well so am I
God may forgive you, but I won't
and I won't even try

Well, the kids had to cry for you
I had to try to do
things that the Dad should do
since you've been gone
Well, you really let us down
You may be Heaven 'bound
but you've left one hell of a mess here at home

Angels -Robbie Williams

Devil Woman- Cliff Richard

Better the devil you know - Kylie Minogue (I think it was a cover, of who? I dunno)

How's that for a start?

Devil with a blue dress on

Prince has some beautiful ones, actually. Several on the "Graffiti Bridge" album, but he sprinkled theology all through his music, especially the 90's
From"Around The World In a day";
The Ladder" and "Temptation"
From Grafitti Bridge" ;
"Elephants and Flowers"
Still Would Stand All time
(maybe )
The Question Of U
Round And Round

there's a country song that I love: Saints and Angels, by Sara Evans (always makes me cry):

We're only human, baby
We walk on broken ground
We lose our way
We come unwound
We'll turn in circles, baby
We're never satisfied
We'll fall from grace
Forget we can fly
But through all the tears that we cried
We'll survive

Cause when we're torn apart
Shattered and scarred
Love has the grace to save us
We're just two tarnished hearts
When in each other's arms
We become saints and angels.

I love your imperfections
I love your everything
Your broken heart, your broken wings
I love you when you hold me
And when you turn away
I love you still and I'm not afraid
Cause I know you feel the same way
And you'll stay

Cause when we're torn apart
Shattered and scarred
Love has the grace to save us
We're just two tarnished hearts
When in each other's arms
We become saints and angels.

These feet of clay (these feet of clay)
They will not stray

Cause when we're torn apart
Shattered and scarred
Love has the grace to save us
We're just two tarnished hearts
When in each other's arms
We become saints and angels.
Saints and angels

Got anymore? The list is coming along, but we need more.
Would Jesus Wear A Rolex... (on his television show?) -- Ray Stevens

Mississippi Squirrel Revival -- Ray Stevens.

Actually, Google up Ray Stevens' complete list of work and you'll find about 20% of his music is religious/inspriational underneath the silliness of things like the Missiissppi Squirrel Revival.

If you go back a few years, the fifties and sixties top 100 lists were filled with things like Johnny Angel, Devil or Angel, My Blue Angel, and so on.

Too tired to make a list, but immediately I thought of Angels would fall by Melissa Etheridge.

Angel Eyes by Roxy Music

Angel by Aerosmith

Angel by Fleetwood Mac

Kiss an Angel good Morning - Charley Pride

The Angels Wanna Wear My Red Shoes - Elvis Costello

Angel With A Lariat - kd lang

Sleeps With Angels - Neil Young

Voodoo Chile - Stevie Ray Vaughn

And that classic, "Drop Kick Me, Jesus, through the Goal Posts of Life". :D

Y'all are forgetting 'The Devil Came up to Michigan" by KMC KRU. :) It's a spoof of "The Devil Came Down to Georgia" but it's really hi-larious.
:D
