Simple proposal?

Okay, let me say, I'm not trying to get into the politics here. Any politician, of whatever party, who cheats on his wife (or her husband), is bad bad bad. That said, I found this article in the Philly paper amusing.

The writer has an interesting proposal to try to curb the cheating of powerful men. He also calls out Schwarzenegger and Spitzer, so it's not like he's going on party lines, either.

The "highlight reel" line is probably this:
That's why I think these jerks ought to get tattoos of their kids faces - on their penises. It would remind them just who gets screwed when daddy's wee-wee wanders.

Wouldn't help. They'd just hide the penis and tattoo away in a warm, dark place

Alpha males are drawn to power. It always has been and always will be. And cheating is pretty common for Alpha males. We like to think we're all enlightened, and we are on some things, but human nature will always win out.

Nonsense.

Every politician is a grandiose narcissist without a shred of impulse control or sense of propriety.

*shudders*

I'd no longer be able to look at a penis if it had a tattoo of my kid on it, let alone engage in other activities with it. That would be way too disturbing. So I vote a big no on that proposal!

Well I do believe it was meant in jest. :)

Arrogance will always defeat morality. However, a heavy-duty child-support, alimony and property division judgment may make the Alpha Male realize the errors of his ways.

Footnote to the Foregoing

There was a story on the Internet this a.m. (5/25/11) that former Sen. Edwards of South Carolina was about to face a Federal indictment for using campaign funds to cover up his affair with his videographer (while his wife was dying of cancer). If true, this is like nailing Al Capone for tax evasion. Better that, however, than nothing. Branding with the mark of Cain has gone out of style.

How many politicians, male or female, commit adultery?

Is that a higher percentage than the general population?

If politicians are representative of the people who elected them, then we should expect that they might be like the people that elected them. Some will be assholes, some will be good guys and girls, and some will commit adultery.

Why should we expect higher standards from our politicians than from our neighbours? If Mr and Mrs John Doe divorce because of adultery, do we pillory them publicly? Or do we sympathise with one or other ex-partner? Do we think he/she shouldn't have married her/him? Or do we shudder and think, "Thank God it wasn't me"?

We do hope for a bit better judgment from those holding our government in their hands than from the average citizen.

I think Ronnie has issues.

For every ego stretching politician/athlete/movie star, there is a woman who thinks she is getting something good out of the deal. She sounds more like an aggrieved administrative assistant who didn't get the promotion she thought she was buying when she fucked her boss, than the estranged wife of an governor.

We should expect more because they tell us to expect more of them, because so many politicians harp on "family values" and "traditional marriage." And then of course they betray that, and their spouses and constituents.

And in some places, some towns, some circles, yes, Mr and Mrs Doe would be pilloried publicly. The gossip mill would run at top speed. And then the rest of us are glad it isn't us.

It's a question of hypocrisy and we tend to be hypocritical when we label hypocrites. It's easy to forgive our friends and easier still to condemn our enemies.

Infidelity and all its related sins are judged subjectively. Everyone has their own experience with it, either as perpetrator or victim. I can empathize with the politician who is caught with a campaign worker. I don't endorse it, but I understand it. When he gets caught, I don't see it as a breaking of family values. It's a reflection on his judgment and organizational skills.

When Bill Clinton was first running for President, a blogger charged that in his time as Governor of Arkansas, he had sex with 200 women, other than his wife. It might be more than 200, or less, but that's not the point. With all the charges going around, no one could produce any of the women, or as much as a hotel desk clerk to substantiate the claims. Moral or not, that is the kind of man we need in office.
