Just ended up reading through the Epilogue of Danica again because someone left a comment, and happened to notice this.

Damn. That is some seriously illustrious company. The similar story section is somewhat unfathomable in how it works, but I'm certainly happy with being even remotely connected to LienGeller, PacoFear, and Hammingbyrd — true giants and legends in the category. I'm not familiar with NobleTruth's work, but considering the company, I would guess it's an honor to be associated with as well.

Just tickled me, and I felt like sharing.

I really need to finish one of the stories in progress and get something new out in this name.

Yes, impressive association. You might check those stories to determine if they really are similar, though. The last time I checked this function, it seemed just random. Maybe the keywords used were similar, but the stories themselves weren't. Sort of the same thing with the most popular author listings on the category hubs under the new page system (which doesn't track with the listing on the old page view). For the category I check the most, the authors identified as the most popular for that category don't actually write much of anything in that category.

I have no inside information but I assume the way this works is common favorites. That is, the stories that show up on your "similar stories" list are those that have the highest number of readers that have favorited your story AND the listed story. Obviously, it wouldn't work right after your story is published, but at some point I think this system kicks in.

I just let it be whatever it is. I don't try to make the stats here either assure or depress me. It's not going to affect what I write and submit, and I think it's all just too easily manipulated by those who want to manipulate for games (or insecurities) of their own.

That Paco Fear story is one of the small handful of stories to have a red H a W and a green E (surprising as it involves incest which Laurel is not a fan of)

PF does not have a large body of work, but has some of the most epic stories in the category.

In a similar vein(pun intended)

I get a kick out of the list of contest winners that are alongside the incest stories.

Three are mine....for some reason my PC is acting wonky with screen shots so this is just a paste

Probably something to do with category and tags.

I don't know exactly how the algorithm works, but I assume when you first post a story the Similar Stories list is based on category and tags, because what else could it be?

But after a while it's very clearly something else. The reason this is clear is that the Similar Stories list for popular stories tends to consist of other popular stories, and the obvious explanation for that is common favorites. Look at the list for Darkniciad's story. That's not produced by tags. It's produced by common favorites. He is a popular author with many followers and favorites. The stories in his list also have many favorites.

My most favorited story's similar stories list has a number of other highly favorited similar stories. The most logical explanation for that is common favorites.

Similar stories has improved, a remember years ago getting Gay male recommendations on incest stories I read(and not by the author of the taboo story)

Tend to agree, but why it would steer me towards my own story and Ogg's which I'd read the day before (but didn't fave)?

So it might also include favourite authors, as well as faved stories (I think Ogg and I are on each other's lists) - but that somehow seems a bit redundant, because our CP would each show the other what we've each published.

Maybe it's all some kind of automated lucky darts program...

All I can really fathom is that the similarities do seem to improve over time. When a story first comes out, it's almost like a blind man was throwing darts at a randomly generated list. As time goes on, the suggestions seem to become more relevant.

Ogg's signature contains a quote by you, with your name. It makes sense that people who read Ogg's stories see your name and click on your stories, so you and Ogg would have common favorites and followers.

People who read your story A are likely to read your story B. There is therefore a high probability of common favorites among your stories. That's true for me as well, and I think it's true for other authors.

I just published a sister-brother incest story. The result of that has been a huge jump in views of my previously published sister-brother incest story, and therefore the earlier story is now the number 1 story on the similar stories list for the new story.
