Silly computer questions

I use Incredimail as my email.. and today I found about a million websites that you can download stationary...(including some "adult" stationaries.. )

Some of the stationary uses a special font that I don't have on my computer.. so they gave a link to the font styles to be downloaded.


Well I downloaded them all.. Not that I needed to but because I wanted to.

So my questions are..

1. How many font styles can I have in my c:/windows/font file? Can there ever be to many?

2. If I use a font that (lets say) *you* don't have downloaded on your computer on an email that I send to you.. can you see it? Or will it come up as a "default" font? Basicly.. what I'm asking here is.. Did I just waste several hours of my boring life downloading totally useless fonts?

Also about the stationary,unless the one you email has the html enabled email,the stationary comes as an attachment.

yeah.. I was bored of Lit.. so I found some other way to waste my time It was either download useless fonts or clean the upstairs.. Which would you have chosen?

LTR-I emailed myself (at my hotmail account) and the background shows up. Just about everyone I send emails to (from my *main account*) uses either hotmail or Incredimail... so far everyone I email can see the backgrounds I use.

there is a limit but it must be around a thousand different fonts I think after that your computer start doing free game. For you font to work properly you have to install them.
Installing Fonts for Windows
1.Download the font into a folder you can easily remember.
2.Fonts are often zipped files so you need to unzip the file with WinZip.
3.Go to the Start Menu, choose Settings then control Panel.
4.Open the Fonts folder.
5.Under the File menu select "Install New Font."
6.A new window appears then navigate to the folder with your font and click OK.

Yes but a way is to specify in your HTML different font example: {FONT FACE="arial, helvetica"} the browser will check first for arial and if he dont find it he will search for Helvetica and so on. I dont know how much font name you could put in that line tho.

I know how to install the font (I just did over 50 downloads and installs).. but thanks for explaining it anyway

I too had Incredimail for a while...but only on the Hotmail addy..which I don't really use..I thought that I could have used it on AOL...but nope, so I got rid of it. I have to admit, I did like it!

It's a neat email.. easy to use.. and so far I haven't had any problems like I did when I was using Outlook Express.

Adding a lot more fonts is a great way to slow down your system.

I don't know of any numerical limit to the number of fonts you can install. However, there is a practical limit that depends on how much RAM/Virtual Memory you have. The more fonts you have installed, the more system resources you dedicate to font management.

At some point, the font management starts using up system resources that other programs need to run properly and your system will slow down.

Various versions of Windows handle Font management differently -- newer version will manage them more efficiently without hogging resources for unused fonts -- but all versions will, the the best of my knowledge, eventually reach a point where too many fonts will slow your system down.

So far it's not using any more resources than it was using before the fonts install. I have 239 fonts installed...

384 MB of Ram.. and 89% resources free. I have my mail running in the background.. and three other windows (besides this one) open.

I don't think it has caused any problems.. and I have all of them downloaded that I want.. so I won't be downloading anymore anytime soon.
