I'm sure this has been asked a million times but . . .

Now that I'm gettnig closer to that magical purchase for me and my wife, I was wondering what the difference between the 2 materials is when selcting a dldo?

I've read that the silicone is easier to clean, but the cyberskin is more realistic (the cyberskin extreme cock looks like a good one) . Is this true, and if so, is the difference really that noticable? I don't want to have to be standing at the sink scrubbing this thing for a half hour after sex because of the material. Also, would putting a condom on it help protect it?

I was in a store yeterday viewing the many d's on hand and I must say there's so many to chooese from. I saw one with a material called ultraskin. Are such types of materials cheap rip-offs of others? I don't want to get stuck with cheap thing that doesn't last.

Any suggestions on what NOT to get as well?
I've read write ups on various sites, but I feel from what I've read from the people here on this board, the hands on knowledge would seem to blow away any sore suggestions.

Thanks,

You've hit the nail on the head. Cyberskin is notorious for not only getting dirty but being extremely difficult to clean. There is special cleaner for it but I've read that that doesn't work well either. It's so bad that some sex shops won't even carry it. It's not just a case of being concerned how it looks...but a safety issue. Yes a condom over the dildo would help but then what would be the point of buying Cyberskin since it's benefit is it's life-like feel of skin?

Silicone on the other hand is known of it's ease and ability to be cleaned as it can be put in boiling water for a short period of time to ensure any germs are killed. It is even better for cleaning than rubber or jelly.

Cleanliness is important at all times but especially if the dildo is to be used for anal play.

Your choice....but mines would be/has been silicone.

Hope this helps and enjoy your new toy.

If you play with something for 1 hr. Then you have to spend 2 hr. trying to clean them is it worth it? I say the easyer it is the better it is. Sex should be fun, not a chore.

And this may sound really stupid, but cyberskin can be a very good medium for transferring problems from one area to another, for example if she had a cold sore and was showing you how much of it she could take in her mouth, then later inserted it vaginally that same virus can infect her there, with silicone it is much much harder to do something like that (but it is still possible) Besides you can't toss a cyberskin toy in the drawer after sex because one of the kids opened the door, it has to be cleaned every time you use it, silicone can just be wiped off and put away, with occasional cleanings.

I'm speaking from the position of a lesbian whose girlfriend has had experience with actual men. We own more than a dozen dildos, and the overwhelming majority of them are silicone. It's a more expensive material, but the quality makes up for that. We have a Cyberskin "sleeve" that can be slipped over any dildo; my girlfriend tells me it is much closer in feel to the real thing but the problems with care, cleaning, and storage make it less appealing. This leads me to think that heterosexual couples would be happier with silicone, as they already have something that "feels real."
