Is there anything in the world that is worse?

I am talking about when someone you care about is hurt or having a hard time and you want to help them, but they can't talk about it. Not because of anything that you have done, but because they have never let anyone get close to them.

I guess that I just have to be patient.

I have a friend like this. He shuts everyone out...and it is very hard on me. I respect him enough and care for him enough that I have to accept it, but I will say he is trying harder, and sometimes tells me a little. That means a great deal to me....so yes, just give them time, and as much as it pains you, space. I'm sorry....silence can be so very painful.

I've been guilty of this. It is my defense. During that time, I'm driving myself crazy. Not sleeping, not eating, but there is a time when I finally decide to open up... I have usually figured out my course of action by this time but I look for advice and reasurrance.

As long as your friend knows you are available and willing.. the time will come.

That is the way that she is.

She had a rough childhood and she never allowed herself to let others into her world. She will give me a glimpse of her world, but if I get too close, she backs away. She is so affraid of getting hurt.Then, you add in the fact that she is in NY, and that distance just adds to the pain.

What can you do though...

I had a brief discussion...(actually it was a monologue mostly on my part)...today about this silence thing. Silence is hell to me, but that doesn't somehow justify my efforts to fill the void of quietness. Sometimes...and I am trying to get a handle on this...silence is just what the doctor ordered. Sometimes when I practice it myself, I can hear so much more of what you are saying.

sometimes

silence is the best thing for me, and i know it hurts my close friends but i can't help it as some of you know i have got some things going on in my life that are not so good, and sometimes its easier on me to keep quiet than to expess my thoughts , everybody has differant ways of handeling problems!!! give it some time and i am sure it will be ok !!

When something has really upset me this would be exactly what I'd do. May not be the best way of handling it, it's just the only way I know how.

So many emotions and feelings inside that in order for me to sort them out I need the space. Even if only to let the tears fall unwitnessed.
