Signs: The Movie

Huh, I'm surprised these threads got no responses. I was going to start a new one, but found yours in a search Myst.

I saw Signs last night. WoW! I actually screamed out loud twice during the movie. Heh. Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix were great, the story was great, funny and scarey! I was completely creeped out when I left the theater and kept my feet up on the seat during the whole movie. You know, in case there was a monster under the chair :D

All fans of good old fashioned creepy horror movies - not the slash and gash type, but good suspenseful storytelling, will enjoy this movie. Go see it!

I wanna go see it, but, I heard the ending sucked and that makes me think twice about wasting 7 bucks. Maybe I'll wait for the DVD.

I didn't think the ending sucked. It's a good movie for the big screen too.

I guess I should consider the source. My mother, who hates horror movies. She just went to see Mel Gibson. Now I'm on to her!

wow...I only heard bad things about it. Scary movies have so much hype to live up to.

Something tells me I'll end up at Spy Kids today anyway...

They filmed most of this movie 10 minutes from my house. I thought the movie was good but I hated the sheriff. This is not a back woods town with some local yokel sheriff trying to keep people from spitting on the skateboards! Give me a break! Not to spoil the ending but I would have liked to have seen some destruction outside of the house. The back yard looking like nothing had happened. I keep going to Shyamalan's movies hoping for another 6th Sense and keep being disappointed.

I just got back from seeing the movie and I enjoyed it very much... it was scary and funny.

I enjoyed J. Phoenix his character was funny , especially like one scene where Mel Gibson comes back and he finds his 2 kids and Phoenix on the couch and they are all wearing these little alumin foil hats. :)

I saw it last night with the mrs.

Let's just say, she was the only highlight.

This movie is the Anti-Independence Day. It's the story of the average family and how they would experience an alien invasion. No heros or explosions. Just scared, confused people behaving like any of us would.

And I learned a long time ago that judging an artist by his past work will only leave you feeling disappointed so I don't do it. I enter all films with an open mind and usually come away happy.

I agree totally with that.

For the recored I loved signs. Spooky and funny and very, very real.

Joaquin Pheonix was amazing as always. I'm really becoming a fan.

Signs

I can honestly without fear say that I really didn't like The Sixth Sense or Unbreakable. Signs however was fantastic. I would have to agree also that the movie isn't really about crop circles or aliens. Its basically about the way that the family deals with it and everything else that goes on in their lives. I am however agitated about Mel Gibsons change of mind (if you've seen it already you know what I mean) at the conclusion of the film. It would be nice for once to see an anti-conformitive character stay an anti-conformitive character from beginning to end. No need for a lesson to be learned type scenario in every film.

May or maynot contain traces of spoilers. Does contain traces of peanut

I watched the movie just before going to bed.. big mistake. I almost needed a change of underwear when the alien walked pass at that bday party.

A few thoughts:
- Is Bo an alien hybred? she has a thing about water and was always seeing things in her dreams. Actually what is the alien's deal with children? They seemed to be after them.

- The aliens don't like water. So wouldn't the moisture in the air be dangerous to them? It may not kill them, but im sure it would cause some pain.

- Was nice to see some aliens without special powers. They were almost human, they just looked and spoke different.

- At least they pay some attention to other countries, it wasn't USA with a little help from the world vs the Aliens. Actually the aliens wern't even defeated. Not even a small victory. They just left, which is the scariest thing of all.

Sorry to break the news to you, but it was a movie set in a FICTIONAL place...Xmen 2 is filmed in my hood...I dont live with mutants go figure...sorry if it didnt conform to the reality of your town

More destruction outside the house? Well since they were alien harvester/raiders and not Vikings I thought it made sense

if you are going to sneak in and take people...blowing shit up might not be the best approach

maybe shes just a kid who has trouble dealing with the death of her mother and is sublimating for it by developing a behavior which requires constant supervision and attention...wait..that sounds logical...lets go with the silly Xfiles hybrid stuff

As for why only after children? Who says so...people who werent children were dissapearing in town...the guy who crushed mom was attacked by one...they might just go after kids cuz they are smaller, less easy to defend themselves and their is the organs...young fresh, unpolluted

What was so great about it? I thought it was pretty hokie, myself. I laughed. I was pissed, too, that none of the main characters died.

It was more of a propaganda film than anything else, if you ask me.

So I guess when Xmen 2 comes out its going to say it was set in your "hood" on the screen at the beginning of the movie and then have a sheriff from your county in it right? That's what Signs had. It said "Bucks County, PA., 45 miles from Philadelphia." That's not FICTIONAL! If you're going to use a specific place as a setting and tell people what place it is you should be a little more realistic.

Logic? Why go with logic? Geesh..that just makes too much sense...

Maybe Bo is really Anakin's brother, who was sent to Earth to warn everyone that dinosaurs were genetically created for a theme park, but only before a huge meteor is going to crash into the planet....yeah, that's it...

And I thought the movie was pretty cool myself...a little preachy (oohhh..now there's a pun), but pretty good storytelling. And when they showed the video of that kid's birthday party? *shivers*

Still trying to figure out what the propaganda was

Aline organ thiefs are bad?

Look at it in the context of our times. America is at war with Al Quaeda.

What values are at work in the film?
Family
Law and order
Religion
Faith

And end the end we come out winners.

"Everything happens for a reason."

Little bro kills a terrorist with a baseball bat and water and big bro' finds his faith again.

Propaganda.

Good morning everyone!

I Saw it friday.... I still look over my shoulder when walking in the dark..... or alone in the house....

Yes I'm a wose.

but I'm wondering did anyone else realise this?
The Movie wasn't about what it seems..... that is all a background story. The real story is about a man who lost his faith and is forced to find it again?

That's what I got out of the movie.
