No Idea really, but I suspect it's because their annoying and take up more space on the servers than JPeGs.

But you can have an animated gif as an avatar. It just has to conform to the size limitation that all avatars do. Good luck with that one.

Just because something is technologically possible does not make it user-friendly or desirable.

I know that a lot of people really like their own flashy-blinky eplileptic-fit-causing siggies... but I have rarely heard anyone give kudos for anyone else's.

I did it on Queer~Vader but he was supposed to be annoyingly obnoxious.

Not sure if that was already your siggy but it was funny to see in this thread.
I like to read clever sigs so I fell like I am missing out if I mute them. I put posters with especially egregious ones on ignore and then either click "view post" if I suspect they would have something interesting to say in a situation or just wait and see if someone quotes them.
