Sigh. Trolled again! Anyone need a rant?

I think, for me, being given a one (or in my case more than one, I suspect) when all my other scores are 4 or 5 is worse than getting stupid anonymous comments. At least with anon you know he's an idiot and you know why. With the no comment bombs, there is no way to know why the fuck they're scoring you low. I tend to take it personally.
So anyone need to rant? It would make me feel better.
Thanks to everyone who read my new story-(except the 1, no comment people) you're all fabulous. Anyone else want to read it and actually tell me if there's a problem? (besides the typos that I am already fixed in an edit)

SJ- whose day is starting much worse today than yesterday

Wear 'ones' as trophies, it simply means you are getting noticed. Happens to all.

If you want to correct it, use the 'report this story' link at the bottom of the story page and ask Laurel to remove blatent 'one' votes.

It's a repetitive task that regretfully cannot be automated.

I just had a 1-bomb cleansing and will have another one this weekend I suspect. It usually takes 2-4 days before whoever has a beef with me gets around to re-bombing the work. But I think the webmasters are used to it and are pretty quick to respond if you go through the process neonlyte described.
Just remember, people 1-bomb because they can't actually write themselves.

I did what Neonlyte said (thanks!!). Glad to know there's something I can do. Feel guilty, though. Like I'm cheating or something. Little nagging voice in my head says- "what if you deserved the one?" I am trying to tell that little voice to shut the fuck up.

Is it bad that I'm hearing voices....

Don't feel guilty. If most of your votes have been 4's or 5's, with the occasional 3 thrown in for flavor, then you most certainly didn't deserve a 1.

No, it's not bad you're hearing voices. We're writers, we're supposed to be eccentric. ;)

Oh good! Glad I'm not the only one with the damned voices...

Just to add - I've never asked for a 'one' to be removed if it came with a comment - unless the comment was abusive. Unfortunately, I don't get abused too much ;)

lol!
I didn't even know you could ask to have a one removed. I wouldn't mind getting it if it had a comment. At least I would know I got the one for either (a) lousy writing or (b) lousy reader.
All of my comments have been good, though. So, no clue.

1 bombs are a social service.

Think about it this way...a 4.5 means that you only have .5 room for improvement... do you believe that?

I still think I'm mediocre with one or two stories that I really showed potential.

It'll be a let down when you write something that you know is SIGNIFICANTLY better than anything you've ever done before and the difference scorewise is .1 of a point.

At that point, you'll be looking at the screen thinking ... "But this is SOOOO much better than that!"

Then you'll go back to try to fix the old story to justify it's score and the difference between the new and the old.

Of course, that could JUST be me.

Sincerely,
ElSol

Sophia, I'm afraid you'll get used to it. I'm pretty sure one of my stories got bombed recently.

But I have so many other votes on the story I hardly care.

And I collected votes on stories that were posted months ago, so that helped too.

If you stick around, I suspect you'll end up the same way. Who cares if you get bombed occasionally if you have hundreds of vote saying how good you are.

P.S. your latest was good, very hot.

Alas, with most of the 1 bombs, the comments are simply attacks on the writer, not the writing. However, I certainly would not characterize the 1 bomb readers as "lousy," in my none too humble opinion, most of them are insane.

I know what you mean. I don't necessarily think that the new story deserves a great rating- I'm not a true "5" writer yet. But... it is better than my first story, and the ratings don't reflect that now. There is, in fact, a .01 difference in their scores now. That's why I'm irritated, I guess. Plus I'm having a bad day in RL.

I know it dosen't help much, but the best way to deal with them is to ignore them. A lot of folks go through an inordinate amount of work to have spurious one votes removed, only to see them back as with EA. If he/she is a persistant bomber, they are no longer a problem as spurious votes by them will get removed when Laurel sweeps. Eventually, the good votes will render the occasional one useless.

Of course not all one's are bombs. If someone genuinely didn't like your story they may have given it a one. By most of our standards no work that isn't truly horrible deserves a one, but some folks give them reguarless.

I've never asked to have a vote removed. But I don't pay attention to my scores anyay, so I guess that advice isn't so good if you do.

In whatever event, I hope you get it taken care of to your satisfaction.

You get hundreds of votes? Wow, my poems barely get a hundred views.

Sophia Jane, your writing is wonderful. Don't let the 1's get you down - they're undeserved. I haven't read your stories yet, but I love your poems.

Such a sweetie! (voted on your new one, by the way). Poems don't get nearly as many views, so don't feel bad. I have some that have less than ten votes and around 100 views.

It's happened a couple of time now.

I doubt my poetry would attract as much attention as yours LJ. My poetry really sucks. I do have some small skill at story telling though.

Ah, a public service thread, I love it.

<rant> Last night some wanker one-bombed my humour story, Santa's Dungeon (the one that's up for the award). It's been in the top five of that category ever since it first posted. Now it's not. The envious twat just couldn't resist. Bless their little troll socks. I get bombed on a regular basis. Such is the price I pay for being who I am. It's a tough life, but I cope, somehow. I would've cried over this one bomb this morning, had I not looked in the mirror directly after and seen a smiling face looking back at me. How did I deal with this devastating body blow? I wrote and submitted a new story. It's a fucking hot and deliciously evil story, which will be ripe for the one bombers, unless they get a wank out of it.</rant>

Lou - very thick-skinned. ;)

Thank you, dearest! You're one of my favorite poets so it really means a lot that you liked my scribblings.

I'm not complaining - my stories have been generally well-received and I truly value the views and votes. I think I'm just more emotional about my poems because more of my emotions go into writing them, so I can't help wishing they'd have a larger audience.

So to those 100 people out there who've read my poems, here's a big wet  from me!

Sexy when you rant!

Could you bless my little socks too? I got trolled this weekend while I was stuck in bed with a nasty stomach flu. :(

Not sure if it makes a difference, but I thought I should clarify something. They're not troll socks, just little ankle-high grey socks with tiny green frogs on the footie part.

Thanks, cutie.

Their thoughtlessness knows no bounds, does it?

I am now imagining you wearing nothing but little ankle-high grey socks with tiny green frogs on the footie part, and it isn't doing my focus much good. :catroar:

Some trolls have gotten smart. I had one who voted on a story of mine (which was at the top of its category at that time and had been for a bit) and gave it a 2... Now, since the story at that time was rated a 4.9 something, I really don't think it deserved a 2, but since only ones get removed... Troll even admitted to low voting it to knock it off the top because "it didn't deserve to be there."

Needless to say, that story isn't at the top anymore.

It's funny, I've been checking my scores more lately because I have new work posted after a long writing hiatus. Why's that funny, you ask? Well, because I've been really satisfied with my writing lately. I'm interested in how they rank, but I'm coming into a zone where I can easily tell where the quality is and where it isn't. Sadly, the voting doesnt' always concur. Anyway, I think trolls are smelly and should change their socks! Ha! Also, they should be green with envy, cos Lou's picturing me nakey and she knows that's a sure way to get her recently bombed story read, voted and commented on by me. ;)

~lucky

p.s. (I hope this doesn't blow the image, but I'm wearing a bit more than socks. Do nipple studs and a smile count?) :p

I don't normally get into the scoring thing with Laurel, but that is downright malicious and it's not up to one person to decide what remains on the Top List. That's one time I would ask her to investigate the presence of a 2 score, at least to know that you'd still be up in the running without it. :(

Also, I've had 2's removed before during one of her routine sweeps, so don't lose hope, Crim.
