Sick of internet explorer?

I bought my first PC about 7 years ago... and have hated Windows and Internet Explorer for lets see.... about 7 years.

About a month ago I switched from IE to Firefox... I almost can't believe how much better it is. It's faster, more secure, and allows you to download plugins for multiple search engines and themes. Best of all, it's free... no ads, nothing.

The other thing it really has going for it is that instead of having to open a new IE window for each webpage, you can just open as many tabs in firefox and switch between them without minimizing or any of that crap.

I switched because of all the spyware that IE allows to be installed on your computer, haven't had any of my browser settings changed since I switched... just figured some of you might be interested. Though many of you may already have it...

Firefox

I just switched over to Firefox about a week ago, and find it to be very good, with many useful features. The tabbed bookmarks are worth the installation alone.

I have avoided IE like the plague for about eight years now . . . ever since I started going online regularly. I've been using Netscape for most of that time, but have recently also added Firefox to my browsers. I like them both . . . but I'm more familiar with Netscape and am likely to continue using that more often.

BUT . . . anything to help deny Microsoft the monopoly it's so obviously looking for!! :p

Firefox is great. I was using it for awhile because IE kept acting all weird on me. But, I got a different ISP, and a faster connection and Firefox doesn't seem to be working as well as IE. PLUS, there are some websites that don't seem to want to work in Firefox. I.E. game sites like zone.com.

Yeah, there are a few sites that don't work right. Yet in the future if Firefox keeps gaining users like it has, I think that will stop being a problem.

I really like being able to have the search engines to sites on my address bar. I think I have webster dictionary, overstock.com, amazon.com, newegg.com, google, yahoo, and barnes and noble...

I have to use IE about once a month, but like what was said earlier, anything to avoid microsoft is a plus. The only reason I haven't really tried to make a switch to Linux is that I play games at times, and that can pose some problems.

I'm just so sick of the security holes big enough to drive a bus through in everything Microsoft makes...

I know what you mean. The disgusting "messenger service" pop-ups were ridiculous. I couldn't believe how many were coming through.

I still use Firefox as much as possible - until I come across something that doesn't function. I do suggest anyone having problems with IE downloads Firefox. As a whole, it's a much better browser than IE.

I've been using Mozilla since 2001 and am thrilled with it.
A lot like Netscape because the people who made netscape made Mozilla.
Security, ease of use and quick hit buttons for frequently visited web sites without having to go through drop down lists.

I've been using Firefox for a while now, since 0.7 or so.

I highly recommend getting the Adblock extension, it will make your browsing experience much more pleasant.

Firefox

I'v been using it since about mid january and boy have I noticed a difference. I was having some funky problem in IE where the web page would load and then click over to the 'page not available' message. Very frustrating. Fortunately we were able to download firefox.

I haven't had a problem since...*knock on wood*

Mozilla is my favorite as well. I dumped IE like a hot rock when I found Firefox, but also needed a second for posting here. I found Opera and aside from a small ad box in the top right, it's very sound and easy to use.

I've been using Firefox for a few months now Myself and absolutely adore it. No more popups, no more ads, no spyware.

I have the AdBlock as well and it's worked like a charm, just brilliantly.

Does Firefox have its own imager? Everytime I use it, it keeps on firing up photoshop to display pictures. Annoying to say the least.

Thanks for the link. I'm giving it a try right now. Everything sure seems to work faster. :)

I'm getting tired of IE !! So I think I'll give firefox a chance !
Everyone I talked with assured me it 's great :)

I think its a bug on the forums. Attachments are being sent as content-type: image/jpeg, when they should really be sent as image/jpg. Images loaded as image/jpg should show up fine in FF. Not sure who on Lit to contact about that...

Ahem, LINUX!!!

It's not that hard to use. Try something like Fedora Core (which is free) or Suse (which you have to pay for, I think, but it is one of the easiest to use).

"Microsoft gives you Windows. Linux gives you the whole house."

I've been using Firefox since it was 0.5. It was called Phoenix then. I love it. It's installed on all of my PCs, both at home and at work, as the default browser. I still use IE, but that's for sites that only permit IE browsers

I also use Thunderbird as my default email client.

this is my one complaint about Firefox ... no built in image display .. it always wants to kick out to my image editing program .. which is way slower than IE

Yeah, I hate that too. Real pain at times.

When do you see this?

If you do an image search:

http://alltheweb.com/search?cat=img&cs=utf8&q=literotica&rys=0

And you click on an image, do the images load up in your imaging prgram? For me they all load up fine in Firefox.

Ones from the Literotical forum attachments... they don't work becuse Lit is somewhat broken and FF is less tollerant than IE...

I just installed firefox and I'm trying it out now. The tabs feature looks really nice, but I'm still not sure if Im gonna switch from IE or not.

If you surf porn, and I'm assuming you do... you will switch simply for the lack of spyware. Get the AdBlock extension, it's amazing. :)

I have thought of using linux... but I have read that they have issues with gaming, so for now I am on XP. Still, when it's time to build a new computer, I plan on using this one to play around with it. Though I guess I could run both Linux and XP on here.

::shrugs::

As far as firefox goes... unfortunately you may still need IE... but really the only time I use it now is when I need to visit the microsoft update site. So I guess I can live with that.

Just the lack of spyware alone is enough to make it worthwhile... maybe it will put a little pressure on microsoft to actually do things right. Who knows...

Firefox for sure - but you should go the whole way, ditch Windows and move to the Mac :)

Why drive a Ford when you can have a BMW?

No Lit attachments are seen, when I clicked on the link you gave I didn't get any pictures, just titles. I'm doing the hybrid thing now. I've told FF to open up the pics using IE.

I shoulda been Frankensteins assistant!
