Quinn checked out her reflection with a frown. She still couldn’t believe she was part of the cheer team, she was certainly not your typical cheerleader she was quiet, reserved on none of the other girls seemed to give her the time of day, despite her best attempts.

With a small sigh she readjusted her skirt slightly before grabbing her school bag. She was thankful for her athleticism as she was pretty sure that’s why they had accepted her into the fold even if they did continue to bully her, yet they still expected her to help them with their homework.

She headed out of the house making sure she locked up behind her before jumping into her car. She would be happier once the school year was over and she finally had the chance to make friends when she went to college.

She was hoping to study law, so was more than happy to put in the work at school she also knew that she was going to get a cheerleading scholarship even though the team made it clear she wasn’t worthy of it.

Chris James was the man! He was faster, stronger, and just plain better than everyone else. The school's football teams sucked big bags of horse cocks, until he arrived and changed the entire game. They went from a one win team, to an uneaten team almost overnight. He was good looking to top it all off. He was the Tom Brady of high school.

Yet despite the girls that threw themselves at him. Despite all the friends and the campus fame. He really wasn't as into it as he had hoped. He was force into sports by his father and he was good at it, so he stuck with it. It was nice being popular sure, but that didn't mean everything.

However there was one girl he had a thing for. Not any of the slurs that would fuck him if he so much as smiled at them. No there was that one girl on the cheer team. The red head, beautiful and graceful, yet never one to join in at the parties. She kept to herself and became a mystery to Chris. He wanted to know more, he wanted to know why.

She hid away as soon as she was done with practice or games, much like Chris wished he could. One day he would confront her and ask her out. One day he would break through that shyness she seemed to keep around her like a blanket.

Quinn pulled into the school parking lot and took a deep breath, it was her usual start of day ritual. The smallest of smiles creeped on to her lips at the star of the football team, he was the type of guy that every girl wanted to be with, yet every guy wanted to be. But unlike everyone else Quinn noticed something in his eyes whenever he looked at her.

She wanted to talk to him about it but could never find the courage. He was off limits according to Esme the Queen bee of the squad and school. As far as she was concerned he belonged to her even though they weren’t officially together.

She climbed slowly out of the car before grabbing her bag and made her way inside. She kept her head bowed as she meandered throughout the corridor trying her best not to knock into anyone. The last things she wanted to deal with first thing in the morning was someone having a go at her for accidently knocking into them.

It didn’t take long for her to reach her locker, quickly opening it she pulled out the books she would need before placing everything she didn’t need into her locker before closing it and making sure she locked it before heading to her homeroom.

Chris snuck away from the crowd as soon as he saw the redhead walk past him. How could someone so hot, not be part of the circle of popularity? It didn't make sense to him, and it fucking made her so incredibly interesting it drove him crazy to want to know more about her. So he followed her until she reached her locker. Chris swiftly leaned against the locker next to hers and glanced her way.

"So answer me a question if you wouldn't mind." Chris asked. "How can a girl like you, be so incredibly stunning looking, and yet somehow no one on the football team knows your name. I know because I asked." He smiled at her and lifted a finger, "Not to mention probably the only cheerleader in history to also get good grades. That, makes you, a unicorn."

Chris shrugged and looked away for a brief moment. "So mind if I learn the secret?" He asked her. "Your name, not the grades thing." His eyebrow raised as he watched the look on her face.

Quinn felt a deep blush creep on to her cheeks at the sound of his deep voice. Turning to face him she tried to remain calm. "Only if you tell me why you're not happy?" she countered, being so observant was often her downfall but something about the look on his face told her he was looking for someone to notice.

"I was only made a cheerleader because of who my mother is and not because it was something I wanted." She whispered shyly, that was probably a little bit more information that he liked to hear and besides he was probably only talking to her so then he can make fun of her like everyone else did.

She tucked her books close to her head as a kind of security blanket. With that gut wrenching thought she wanted to run. She didn''t believe he was like the others but that didn't stop her from fearing just that.

Chris was caught off guard by her question, as if she had turned the tables right back around on him. It meant she knew him more than he thought and also that she too had her eye on him just as he had his eye on her. He opened his mouth and stammered for a moment.

She explained why she was a cheerleader and he instantly felt a connection with her. His eyes widened as he leaned towards her, "I get you. I'm in the same boat, my Dad raised me to be a football star. I have to do this, it was forced on me for so long that I dont....I don't know how to do anything else." He told her looking around.

"Don't get me wrong the popularity is great and all, but I wish I could be popular for a reason I liked rather than this football thing." He smiled and leaned back so she could relax. "Alright you know my dark secret, don't tell anyone. But you now owe me your name. So....?" He wiggled his eyebrows at her.

Quinn smiled and nodded softly. "Your right I do. It's Quinn. Or loser or freak or geek. Depending who your talking to." She said with somewhat of a bitter laugh.

She bowed her head and shook it softly. "Sorry that's probably too much information." She admitted with a deep blush creeping on to her cheeks.
