I'm not gonna name names here, because if I'm talking about you, you'll know it. And if you've been paying attention, you'll know the people I'm talking about here too.

I have been registered at lit for about 6 months. That's something like 180 days. In that time, I've made 568 posts. That's around 3 per day on average. I became a guru not too long ago. There are people who've been here for just weeks who are reaching that milestone.

Nobody thinks you're cool because you've got 1000 posts overnight, or post on every thread or whatever. No, it's more likely that people just find the majority of your posts annoying. Being a guru is not a sign of intelligence. In fact in some cases, it's becoming a sign of the opposite. The easist way to become boring is to say everything.

Don't mind me. I don't make the rules, and even if I did you don't have to follow them. But if you think that being a Guru makes you everyones hero, you are wrong. Respect is something that has to be earned over time. So just slow down and put a little thought into your posts at least. If you can fill 1000 posts with intellegent thought and limit your bullshit just a bit, maybe we'll stop getting all these hate threads, and I for one won't care if I see your name on every page Or if you pass me in a week (Which has happened more than once).

I agree with you on this one Maddog.Some people put up post I think just to hear themselves talk.

I've been here for a few months, and I don't post unless I feel like it's important to me, or I have some USEFUL advice. I don't post here much because there's hardly anything except a bunch of bullshit nonsense that most of us are bored to death by! Don't get me wrong, a few of the threads are good, it's just that I have nothing to offer in the way of advice.

Perhaps some folks just aren't comfortable with an "in depth" post, perhaps they feel that it reveals too much of themselves (?),,, and doing the "silly" posts satisfies some inner need,,, so what if they post 1,000 times in a week,,, if it bugs the living hell out've ya then skip the threads that they start and the replies that they post.

This BB isn't topic specific so far as I can see,,, hell, even most of the threads that get started are deviated from some where along the line.

The choice is yours to make so far as I can tell. Now, if Laurel feels that the silliness is getting out've hand, I'm quite sure that she will take whatever action is deemed necessary. Until then though, just ride the wave and dodge the sand bars that lurking to trip ya up.

Doggie, I agree with you. There's been times on the BBS when I've been bored or just in a loopy mood, and post a few mindless posts or just a one line reply. I agree that we all have. It's the "made you look" or the random song lyrics that have me thrown. I mean, why god, why?!?! Then there's the mob mentality that gets some people to jump right in and do the same thing, while anything meaningful or intelligent that got posted falls right off the board.

I'm not aware if there's a way to do this on a UBB or not, but I had an idea....a post cap. No more than, just picking an arbitrary number, 25 posts from the same IP in 24 hours. I think that's reasonable. That way, it would give everyone a good chance to speak their mind, or mindlessness, in some cases, without going overboard. I think it would put an quicker end to some of the arguments that get started as well.

I don't know about anyone else who hasn't spoken up, but I don't think I'm alone when I say that between all the trolls (Lasher?) lately, and the over exuberant posting, this board is becoming increasingly less enjoyable.

You know, there's something else here that no one's considered -- there are a hell of a lot more threads now than there were a year ago, and many more opportunities for posting, so "reply" numbers can rack up a lot faster.

When the board started there were only about four forums, and not so many members posting. My getting to 500 posts took a looooooooooong time.

Today there are ten forums and a lot more members and guests, so naturally you have more places to post, and getting to 500 doesn't take that long.

Again, I think this is all much ado about nothing.
