After promising Jade a tour around my countrey should she like to visit to be cheered up and since it's saturday and I have nothing more to do, I start the tour.
If anyone is interested in particular stuff (like churches, castles, old town, art, whatever as long as it's not wild nature  )

I'm starting with the city where I live, Düsseldorf.
We will start at the Medienhafen, lots of modern architecture.
First picture
Second picture
Another building

The Altstadt, great for partying.
first pic
Altbier -not my favourite at all
next pic
packed

Shopping if you're rich

never that empty
Kö Carree

And at last the local castle, quite a small one.
Schloss Benrath 1
Schloss Benrath 2

I hope you enjoyed this quick tour, I'll be happy to tell you more about Düsseldorf. :)

Nice pics, Chris9. I've only been to The Netherlands once and that was a stop-over at Amsterdam. I'm going to try to make it back for a proper visit though. Someday I hope to travel to the all the towns and cities my great-uncle fought at during the war.

Wonderful Chris I love the architecture please who designed the buildings in the first two pictures.

The Castle is just charming as well the fountain so simple yet so elegant. Its classical I would really love to go there thanks to you. :rose:

The buildings in the first two pictures were designed by Frank O. Gehry (USA). There are three buildings, one white, one brick, the one in the middle has some mirrory surface, so they are all connected by the mirror image in that building.

All those castles around are the positive effects of having a countrey that has not been a countrey for a whole long time but separated into small countries, duchies, cities and such.
Schloss Benrath was built in 1755 as a summer residence for the governing Kurfürst (sovereign over a fraction of Germany and one of seven electors of the German Emperor).

The city I live in has nothing special except for possibly the river valley, especially in the Quesnel region which I live close enough to.

Show them. Please?

Dusseldorf? Isn't that where Heidi lived?

:nana:

edited to add: Are we supposed to tell eachother about the interesting things in our towns?

So if I'm supposed to choose between Edmonton, Saskatoon, Vancouver, and Winnipeg as a vacation destination this summer Edmonton shouldn't be my choice? Because I am.

In American dimensions, yes, in German dimensions, no.

Yes, that's the plan.

Saskatoon is a pretty town, Vancouver is pretty. Vancouver is the prima donna of Western Canadian cities - well, Victoria is a close second. Or maybe it is first, who knows. They are in the same vicinity. Just that Edmonton's flatness and industrial landscapes don't really have that much attraction. It's got it's cool spots, I won't kid you, just that it will not compete with Saskatoon or Vancouver for natural beauty. I cannot speak of Winnipeg since I have never been there but I always hear that Winnipeg is the hell in a handbasket of Canada or something.

Edmonton does have some nice amenities - depends on what you are looking for.

Well, I'm slightly confused. I'd have sworn that Heidi was Swiss. After all her grandfather lived on 'the alps'.

Yes, that's the plan.

Here's some pics of things around here.

Oregon Coast

Oregon Coast

Fort Klatsup

Fort Klatsup was actually recently burned down by a pyro. They're rebuilding it, it's a replica of the fort that Lewis and Clark had when they first came to the Oregon Coast.

Multnomah Falls
The Saturday Market

This is the Saturday Market. It actually goes on Saturday and Sundays, and everything that's sold there is hand made by and Oregon resident. It's all good quality stuff, you can spend hours there just seeing what people have. It's awesome. Across the way they also have a food boothe so every Christmastime me and my mom and sisters go and spend the day there.

I think that's it, but I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

But she went to live with Klara in Frankfurt, I believe it was, which is 200 km from here.

Seems to have what we don't.
Thanks for sharing, gracie and Shank :rose:

I found some other pictures.

Every June we have the Rose Festival (Portland is the Rose City). It's really cool, there's a huge parade, and rides and stuff like that.

Yeah, I know that. And I recall that Frankfurt is in Germany, but now you're saying dusseldorf is in Germany, too, when I thought it was Swiss. I wonder if the author made a mistake, or maybe the borderlines have moved.

I hate this Thread it makes me want to grab my passport ,sell the little emperor , fling the cat into the neighbours , pick up my sunglasses and just start travelling again.

Wonderful Thread Miss Chris...... I am loving it :rose:

I agree with Rebecca
All the pics are beautiful, I love the Edmonton Autumn pics.

Maybe I will have to get the camera out and show you the Norfolk part of the Uk

I think the grandpa lives in Switzerland, and Klara lives in Germany. And Heidi lives in both locations. At least I think it's the Swiss alps, not the German, Austrian or Italian ones. I should read the book again :nana:

I want New Orleans and especially the people in it to get the help they were promised. The tourist areas may be up, hopefully helping in a small way, the economy, the shipping may be back up, the oil companies may be back up but MY GOD, these people, the way they are living if they are not well off in one of "those" neighborhoods is like a third world country or something. Only this is America. This is New Orleans, The Big Easy. People come here to eat and party. Millions love this city. This is NOT right.

Fury :rose:

Great idea Chris and love your pics...another place to add to our 'must visit' list. Hmmm, can see we need to do a world tour to see some of the places everyone here call home. As many of mine are already in the Photography thread, will at this point post some of Amsterdam from our tour guiding expedition yesterday afternoon. I think I am having a love affair with Amsterdam, definately beginning to feel more confident about venturing there alone in the future, and as it is only about 18kms from us, it is very accessible.

These are some of the incredible tilting buildings which can be seen throughout the city streets...weird the way they remain standing given the position some of the more advanced ones are leaning.

The imaginative multi-storey bicycle park (part of it) near Centraal Station...and still there are bicycles chained everywhere you walk, bridges, lamp posts, traffic signals in the center of intersections, you name it. Would hate to forget where I parked my bike in this garage though...could be there for days trying to find it!!

Moulin Rouge club in the Red Light District...not the original of Paris but couldn't resist, then realised I had also captured one of the 'girls in the windows' you are not supposed to photograph.

One of the many beautiful city canals. Despite spending a fortune on barricades to prevent cars being driven accidently into the canals, they get about 1 a week that goes over them.

Oh wait! The grandfather lived in Dorfli! Remember? I wonder who lived in Dusseldorf. Maybe that's where she lived with her aunt before she went to go live with her grandfather.

And I loved the Heidi books - my aunt had all three and I read them so many times that I used to be able to recite them from front to back. lol

Oh, what an awesome thread! :) I'll see about getting some pics of Glendale/Phoenix for you guys.

Shankara may have a UFO in his city, but we're building a giant Jiffy Pop.

Laugh if you want, but you'll agree when you see it. It's a Jiffy Pop.
