Shower with parents?

New to the board but I need to ask a serious question so please foward serious and thoughtful answers.

Trying to work on dealing with my bisexuality. I was not too close to my father but I recall sometimes taking showers with him. I was about 11-12. No physical contact with him the best that I can remember.

In my teens and 20's whenever I had sex with another guy, it was in a pool or a shower. Still want to have sex in the shower with a guy but since I am married, I am trying to resist but it is hard. My therapist believes there is a connection between the experiences with my dad and me performing oral sex on a guy in a shower.

This is one of these things that I can't go asking my buddies and my conservative wife would not understand.

Am I the only one that had this experience? Any you women and/men took showers with one or both of their parents? If so, any results on your sexuality later on as you grew to be an adult?

I'm not sure any real correlation can be drawn form one's sexuality to shared showers/nudity as a child. But since you asked, I am bisexual and I had occasion to shower with both parents as a youth - and again, like you there was never even a hint of anything inappropriate. I can recall however a very strong sense of curiosity and interest.

For what it's worth; I'm not so sure anyone (including your therapist or even yourself) will ever be able to answer that question. And even if they could, what difference would it make in your real life? You said your trying to "resist" your sexual desires - I'm not so sure that's going to work out in the long run.IMO, a better effort would be to simply spend the time understanding human sexuality in general and thus gain a better understanding/acceptance of your own sexuality. Same goes for your "conservative wife". The thing about denial/resistance is that it so often ends up with "cheating" in a marriage. And then the real pain and drama begins...

A shower is an intimate, peaceful, and physically pleasant place, not to mention that you are naked in there, lol, so being in the shower with anyone tends to be arousing if you are remotely attracted to them. And of course having sex around water a few times could easily lead to your sensory memories of water being connected to your sensory memories of sex - that's perfectly healthy and normal.

I agree that the 'trying to resist' and 'conservative wife' are two phrases that make me wince. One of the biggest errors one can make as a bisexual is keeping sex with women and sex with men separate in your mind. When you are married, having sex with anyone else without your spouse's knowledge or consent is cheating. It shouldn't matter if you're thinking about a man or a woman. Well, it matters in that the two are like apples and oranges and it's easy to get bored of the same flavor all the time. But philosophically, that's exactly the same as if you got bored of your wife and wanted to sleep with other women.

The basic issue is whether you are happy and content being married to her or not. If you aren't, approach that honestly. Would you be unhappy being monogamous for the rest of your life with any woman? Would you be happy if you were married to a woman who would share guys with you or watch you with them, but you still couldn't have sex with men without her knowledge and presence? Would you be happy being monogamous to a male lover for the rest of your life? Would you be happy being single and taking lovers of both genders? There must have been a reason or several reasons why you married her. Do you regret doing so, or not? If you love her and are happy being married to her, you pretty much have to either be faithful to her or talk to her and give her a chance to loosen up. Often the best approach is to have a friend broach the general subject of gay sex with her, or if none of her female friends are pro gay rights, you could write her a letter and mail it to her anonymously or something like that.

The psychological impacts on one's sexuality through childhood experiences intrigue me very much. I love reading these kinds of stories and formulating my on theories for fun. I know I have a very strong cunnilingus fetish because my first real sexual experience was eating a girl out. I don't know where my anal fetish came from but it led to me being bi-curious. I think I digressed a bit. As for showering with parents, I -think- I bathed with my mom a few times as a child. I honestly can't remember if it really happened or if I was dreaming. One memory I have of him isn't a pleasant one. I was very young, had to use the toilet but he was in the tub.
