Shouldn't people edit the title of threads if needed?

Sometime a title says something like 'Needs one male' but it is obvious the male has been found. Wouldn't it be better if the author then edited the thread title so it says male role has been filled, or closed now or something?

They would if they could

but they can't, so they won't.

Thread headings cant be changed once created, posts can be edited within a day or two, but never the title.

I've tried, trust me.
