Should we pay for others wanting to live on hills & beachfronts that slide down?

I think it's silly to live somewhere that the earth shakes and trembles... and your house could slide into a large mass of water.

but i grew up in tornado alley, so my choice of location is questionable as well.

Yea, I know there are alot of places that are dangerous but

:p

I could never understand why people choose to live on the
side of a volcano.

It erupts,they move out.It stops,they move back.

Then wait for the next time.

I say enough.

Well then, miss sirenita, queen of lit... I agree with you. :p

Same thing for the ones who insist on living in the "exclusive canyons", with all the brush around them. And they never clear it from their houses. They bitch and moan when the fires come. Tough shit, I say. You knew the dangers of living out there, now shut the fuck up and move elsewhere! You can't live in the desert and not take precautions.

People that live in expensive homes in hills and beachfronts in California, homes that slide down the hill or into the ocean.....end up looking to the rest of us to pay for the repairs or rebuilding or shoring up the ocean front and hillside homes.

They know the dangers and stupidity of living in these areas, yet they arrogantly build and move in at these places. And when the homes get destroyed or damaged.....they whine and cry and get taxpayer funds to assist them.

They get the great views and beach front land, and we get to pay for their priviledge.

I say, if you want your expensive home in these places....then you have to have mandatory insurance that pays for the damage and you waive any tax payer assistance.

I am not talking about unknown damages to homes on all hills, just the exlcusive type homes built in places they should not be, and despite warnings that the hillsides and oceanfronts cant sustain these homes.

What do you think?

I think I'd have to agree with you!!! I'm sick of seeing the "rich" folks homes destroyed and then watching them bitch and moan until the government gives them the money to rebuild in the same place again. :(

Yea, I would love to live in Malibu in a beachfront house

First of all, I think that I don't care for mandantory insurance of any sort. If you don't care enough to get it, I don't care about you facing the consequences when shit happens.

I read about some of the folks in the high rent hills in So. Ca. that got burned out in the brush fires and the reporterette talking about some had "lost everything" because they were uninsured. They have my sympathy. It's between shit and syphillis in any dictionary.

And as far as tax-payer monies for private propery. No way. Time for a propostion, or a recall initiative. The taxpayers have NO COMMUNAL responsibilty to bail fools out.

Siren, remind me before I go on Vacation, to get a photo or two of the "homes" that are built on steep hills, these homes that you are talking about aren't shit compared to the crap the poor people living in wooden boxes have to deal with.

Lo

Yes... I agree with you... that is an extreme example of unnecessary risk and cost (though there are all sorts of different types of risk from health to natural disasters in all sorts of places...) but this one sure seems unnecessary.

Of course, if you wanted to pay for me to live somewhere really ritzy in exchange for the occaisional roll in the hay, I'd have no problem...

the people in teh homes you are talking about, are BOUGHT by peopel who know waht they can or should expect. The people who live ine the houses I talk about, CAN'T live anywhere else, you and I each easily make more in one month, then what they make in a year in some cases.

If the people in Cali want to live there and ahve their homes slide into the ocean or wherever, let them.

Lo - who's NOT a banana, he's a Plantain NAH!

Non-sexual degeneration

It takes about 5 posts on a serious thread before it degenerates into 'off' subject banter.
