It didn't have anything to do specifically with black slavery alone. The broken chains around the feet of Liberty are there to symbolize the freedom of all people from the oppression and servitude of totalitarianism of all kinds, the reason many people from all over the World came to America. The primary purpose of the statue was to commemorate the friendship between France and the United States. So, no.

The statue itself should never be removed, but I'd suggest removing Emma Lazarus inscription when Republicans are in the White House. It could be replaced during Republican administrations with a simpler inscription "WHITES ONLY - MAGA!"

There could be solemn changeover ceremonies on inauguration days.
