Update - See post #88. Militia issue decided by SC in Heller vs D.C. 2008. 5/4 decision.
The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
I won't ask for a repeal but I would like clarification on the intent of the militia and whether there are any limitations on arms for said militia.

Amendment II will never be repealed any more than any of the other Bill of Rights will ever be repealed. Before any of that happens, the nation itself will cease to exist as it was purposely constituted. There is no surer match to instantly ignite American Civil War II than messing in any way with the 2nd.
It has been said ACWI cost more than 750,000 American lives. ACWII will cost in the millions and will result - one way or the other - in a totally different nation: either one where government has finally and completely overwhelmed and subjected individual liberty, or one in which individual liberty is born anew.
When it comes down - and ACWII is coming down (regardless of its specific spark) - you in the rest of the world better pay careful attention to checking your own packages, for Communist China and Putin, while watching to see how many Americans will off themselves before they feasibly step in to try and pick up the choicest pieces, won't hesitate at all to start picking you off just like Ukraine and the South China Sea.
The weakness in the Bundys and so forth is that they've never learned that you can't ever lose what's naturally yours, that another can jail you or kill you, but you'll still possess what's naturally yours. And, once you learn that natural truth, you understand offensive action is never justified because the absolute only way you can lose what's naturally yours is if you - yourself - surrender it. Thus, it becomes simply a righteous matter of defending what is naturally yours.
And there is no individual force more powerful in this world than an American whose heart, mind, and soul are set on defending his, and everyone else's, individual liberty.

Nobody is going to wage war against the US government with anything but a fully-equipped military, and no stockpile of personal arms is going to make a dent in the Air Force or even a single Abrams tank.
So if you're truly interested in a domestic uprising that can make a real difference in the way our country is run, the best course of action is to decrease the US military to the point where it can be drowned in a bathtub. That is also something you have the freedom to do.
