Well at least Foreign Secretary Shimon Peres seems to think so.

Yesterday he denounced the Government for labelling the Palestinian Authority as a "terror-supporting entity" and went on to say that he is not sure whether his Labour Party can be a member of Sharon's coalition any longer. He knows that a large number of his own supporters want out but he doesn't know exactly how many yet.

It could all be political posturing but it does show the rest of the world that the Israeli Government is not acting with one voice.

It's been shown time and time again that the only response Israel gets from using it's miltary might is a wave of more suicide bombers. The constant encroaching of Paleistian land by Israeli settlers and the shooting by Israeli soldiers of schoolkids throwng stones doesn't exactly help Arafat control his own militants.

But then I don't reckon Sharon wants to give him the chance to. He would like nothing more than to destroy the State of Palestine completely.

Isreal is well within their rights to respond to this wave of suicide bombings with military might.

They would be if they withdrew to within their legal borders, but even then their response would be questionable.

I mean, what comes first the provocation or the fist in the mouth?

Sharon's the problem at the moment, not Israel. As Shimon Peres pointed out yesterday...

:(

Sure! He can leave...when Arafat, Hussein, and Khadafy are in Hell for breakfast! :D

Ya know after all this time, I never thought I would say this,but..

I agree with p p man.

He is the problem and if they found a better person to lead, things may not have escalated to this point.

Now I need a Mt. Dew...I feel faint.

I never realized it was a competition. Then again, I've never resorted to bumping one of my own threads to get people to read it.

It's not a competition it's giving people a free choice.

No you didn't have to bump your own thread up but YogiBear did it for you with his "Bumperoonies" post.

I just started this thread too late yesterday for it to get much attention is all...

Surely you wouldn't want the audience not to have another side of the argument to consider would you?

:p

I didn't bump the thread for PC. I did it for myself because I thought it was a good discussion and wanted to give it another evening to play out. As you know, this subject interests me a lot.

Sorry I misspelt your name...

:)

"spiral of violence" says everything about the matter, and Sharon doesn´t seem to get that into his head.

Sharon's nickname is the butcher of Beirut.

The guy is a lightning rod for anger and hate. After what happened in Beirut I can't say I blame them. I seem to recall that pregnant palestinian women living in the refuge camps in Beirut had their wombs cut open and their unborn children ripped from them before the mothers were killed.

The israeli drive into Lebanon allowed the Lebanese Christian forces access to areas of the country they had not controlled prior to the Invasion. Humans can be so aweful sometimes.

That unregistered post about Sharon being a lightning rod for anger and hate was me.

Sorry about that, thought I was logged in. Maybe it was just the board being tweeked tonight?

Basically Sharon should never have been considered for the job if the Israeli's wanted a peaceful time of it. Palestinians have good reason to be suspicious of Sharon's motives and I for one have never been fully convinced that he and the Israeli army forces in Lebanon didn't know about the slaughter that was going on in the refugee camps in Lebanon.

The israel's were under especially difficult attack what with all the suicide bombings at the time and they thought Sharon was the answer. He is an Israeli war hero from the eariest days of the UN mandate for a modern Israeli state. But one other thing to consider is the assasination of Rabin. Yitzhak Rabin was Sharon's strongest political opponent and probably the leader of the stongest political group in Israel.

The above unregistered posts on Sharon being a lightning rod and it's followup were me. I am Luke's Angel. I thought the boards were all better now?
