Hey to all the authors out there (and the non-authors too)! :D

Was just wondering... I have this story posted, called Attention After Class - I personally don't like the story very much anymore, though when I found it with a whole lot of other erotica I'd written over the years, I thought it was the best work I'd done to date and was worthy *sigh* of posting up on Lit.

Now, its been hovering round 4.50 - 4.60 for the past year now, after taking about half a year or so to hit the H-point... but now it's dropping down again. I think it's a load of garbage now, and to be quite honest, a little embarassing... I've gotten a little better than that as an author (at least I HOPE :D), and am seriously considering asking Lit to take the story down.

Any thoughts/suggestions on this? Thanks for reading!

I thihnk in any author you can see a genisis as his/her work has progressed. My first efforsts often remind me of how far I have come in mastering the tools of story telling. Ileave mine up because they are my works, as surely as my latest and because they are firm reminders of how far I have come.

Everyone is different, but to me, culling those I am less proud of now than when I wrote them is in essence deluding myself about my skills and my maturation process as an author.

I haven't read your story. But try removing it and see what happens...

Is it beyond saving?

Could you rewrite it to be a better story?

I leave all of mine posted. Some of them are there to remind me that I must get round to a major rewrite. Stag Party and Hen Party need rewriting most and while they are still posted on Lit they are a gentle tweak on my conscience. It doesn't necessarily mean that I WILL rewrite them but I am inspired to complete other stories as a displacement activity.

But then I'm notorious for low scores and experiments. I would like some of mine to hover around 4.50 instead of 3.50.

Okay, it may be just me, but I think it can be fun to see an authors progression and growth. If it really bothers you ditch it, if not... heck... leave it, it shows where you were. They can read your more modern stuff and see where you ARE.

When I find a new author I like, I tend to read their oldest stories first, then progress towards the newest work. I've always enjoyed seeing an author's development through their writing. For what it's worth. :)

Good luck!

Okay I really appreciated all the feedback - Thanks! :D

Well the story IS sort of half-alright I guess, and it really is the best example that I had at that time as an author of where I was at, so it's a worthy enough piece of beginner-level work I guess...

It's just so hard to look back on now! :)

If I modified it though, then I'd probably end up doing an entire rewrite, and then... what's really the point of that?

It would be an entirely different piece of work than what it had been to begin with.

I think I'll just keep it up there... if people want to rate it off the H it has now, then I'll be a bit peeved for a little while, but I'll get over it, and be happy that I stayed true and honest as a writer.

Yes it's more porn than erotica, and written back when all I thought I had to go was cut almost immediately to the sex, but it's still one of my stories and worth keeping up online for others to read, and judge for themselves...

You mean... it's not just about the sex?? :D Development? Plot? Surely they mean SEX-development, and SEX-plot. Surely. Or... not.

Though not as good as your newest, Cap, better than most on Lit. Well worth preserving.

A very good point. We are our own worst critics, after all. ;)

mmmm yes, and after posting here and gettin such great feedback back from fellow authors, I've come to agree with it.

Sirhugs is absolutely right, it's not my best work, but shows where I was beginning to lead up to at that stage in my life - I reckon I was probably 16 when I wrote that (not sure if I should say that with the underage thing and all, but was over 18 when I started surfin lit and posted that typed-up story *was originially written out* so meh :p)

We are most DEFINITELY our worst critics! :D Before I went to bed yesterday morning, I was resolutely set on taking down that story, but decided to set up this thread and get the opinions of others before I sent off the request. And now I'm glad I didn't just jump straight in and took it down, but asked y'all instead! ;)
