Health care access prevents needless death and misery. Federal law says that citizens are entitled to Medicare benefits up to 133% of the poverty line instead of 100%. So in say, Texas should Rick Perry be blamed for stepping in and blocking people's health care access that they're entitled to and watching them die needlessly?

Legally, no. Morally, politically, and electorally, yes.

That was my first thought as well. Just more "pro-life" hypocrisy.

But think about it for a moment, either someone dies, becomes very sick or disabled, or has to endure suffering and a suit is filed saying that the State is responsible for causing it by blocking benefits they're federally entitled to. The blocking of those benefits made it impossible for them to access care they critically needed.

It would be better if we outlawed Conservatism but that's not gonna happen. We'll have to wait until the white majority declines to get rid of that disease.

Since the GOP is the party of avoiding personal responsibility, I don't see this happening.

So you're not going to write any more D-grade quality e-book porn until you get a real job?

Personally, I think that when lawmakers propose unconstitutional laws that they then spend money to defend in court, they should be held liable for court costs, rather than the state.

In this instance, though, it would definitely be terrible precedent to be able to hold them legally liable for the deaths from a political decision. Every decision harms someone, even if this is much, much stronger than most.

interesting, I see your point. can you imagine a world with responsible politicians and ones that are accountable for their lies?
