What do you think of twists on the old theme of being forced to marry because of an unplanned pregnancy?

Things like:

1. Falling for each other.
2. Incest (cousins and such)
3. Adultery for either or both parties later
4. Divorce and all possible angles on that
5. Interracial
6. Medieval (set in feudal England or Europe)
7. Colonial (set in colonial America)
8. Backwoods (redneck couples)

Just some possible angles...

A BDSM angle, even....the parties discover later that one is Dom and the other sub?

Which ones and what do you think of them?

The characters in my current story, The First Ninety Days, describe their situation as being backwards to that, a "gunshot" wedding--in that they are not being forced to marry, but rather are doing it so that outside forces cannot prevent their marriage.

serial impregnation, where hubby accidentally impregnates the daughter born of the shotgun wedding...so the question is...who will they find to marry her....hmmm... the nice young man next door has always admired Mom sunbathing...she sets out to seduce him, switches with daughter, then they break the news...

Ummm not all shotgun weddings are cause she's pregnant. There was one I attended where the two made out heavily, never actually got anywhere near sex, and got spotted making out, her pops was pretty livid, I don't remember at which. I think her cause she moved in with him and his folks.

Not to say either wasn't willing anyway, just a bit sooner than they planned.

Course there's the old religious reasons, the above being one, another not used much, holding hands. At one point, holding hands was something married people did, not that often either, or moms did with her kids, when they were young. Anybody else, holding hands and being seen doing so could have and did on occassion wind up with a shotgun wedding. Generally two shotguns cause his dad is pissed and her dad is pissed, we won't discuss where said shotguns generally were pointed during the wedding.

What if more than one woman comes up pregnant? Alternatively, what if the identity of the father is unclear?

Could be interesting.

Another type of forced wedding is where one party (usually the groom, sometimes the groom's father or boss) is forcing the wedding to happen for reasons of politics or inheritance. Or in a more sff setting, someone might be forcing a dragon to accept a particular human with a rider, or forcing a rare creature to breed (which might require a marriage in some cases) because their offspring are needed for an army or similar use, or just an experiment to see what the hybrid offspring of two races would be like.

now you're getting into the whole selective breeding thing....like two atheletes forced to mate to produce a champion ...

Yes. There's no real difference between two athletes forced to mate to produce a champion and a prince and princess forced to marry to produce an heir uniting two countries, is there?
