I’m trying to write some short, fun memories from things I’ve done in my life. Before I forget them now I’m getting on .

Before I do too many I’d love feedback on the first couple if anyone would like to have a read. Give me any pointers if there’s anything you think spoils them or if I don’t get them across in a way that’s exciting to the reader.

My "lesson one" from posting my first story here back in 2002, which got rightly panned, is: NEVER say, 'This is a true story'.

It has the opposite effect from what you think -- it makes the reader suspect you're a big fibber.

Readers can't tell the difference, frankly. They'll tell you that couldn't happen when it did, and thank you for sharing a part of your life when it's fiction.

In any event, @mranon90, it's against Lit policy to declare a story is "true" - you might want to change your thread title.

Be more confident - I read the work wife story and thought it didn't need the apologetic 'I'm just an average guy' intro. It's a good, sexy set up and a great story.
