Do you guys prefer reading short stories (3,000 words or less) or longer stories? I personally like writing stories of 10,000 words+, but note that they don't get read much, and even less feedback and votes.

Do you often back-click out of a story if you see it has 5 or more Literotica formatted pages to it?

What do you find to be the best length for the web format?

Regards,

I prefer long stories, so that the plot and characters can be fully developed. At first 10,000+ words can seem like a drag, but once I'm linto the story, the time goes by quickly. I don't back-click. Just write and edit until to you the story is perfect. The readers who get through it, appreciate the time and effort that a longer story takes. Hopefully, the feedback would be more productive.:)

So far, that has been my experience. Too bad so few people seem to be reading my stuff! Ah well, I can only write more stories and hope.

Thanks for responding to my post.

I like long stories. Both to read, and to write. I read so fast that I need a hefty chunk of pages to keep me busy for any appreciable length of time, and I am also lucky enough to be a pretty quick and prolific writer. Except sometimes, that's a problem. Every short story really wants to be a novel and every novel wants to be a trilogy! ;)

Agreed! Thanks for the response.

I prefer 2, but 3 is okay, Literotica pages in a story. If it's longer than that, then I'd rather see it broken up.

It takes time to read these things, plus some people have to deal with load times as well. If I have to stop in the middle of an extremely lengthy story-- I had to with Marc Singer's Roberta-- then getting back to where I was at is a bitch. I never finished reading Roberta.

That's just my personal preference on the matter.

Is that because you can read 2-3 pages at a single sitting, or some other factor?

2-3 Lit pages I think is perfect.

I'll admit to looking at the scroll bar and if it looks short - tend to be quicker than usual with the back click.

If the scroll bar indicates at least a "page" worth, I read on.

When reaching the end of a the first page, if I notice I'm on 1 of 10, then unless the it's *really* good,I tend to bail. I'm an impatient reader.

While it may be a serious character flaw, I read Lit stories for a quick thrill. I'm unwilling to invest too much time in a single story. It's odd that I'll read all 9 chapters (and thoroughly enjoy them!) if they are posted a few pages at a time, but if posted all at once - the many pages tend to intimidate.

one man, one vote.

When I am reading off a monitor, I need some sort of rapid gratification. I want to like the first line, then the first paragraph. The first paragraph will decide whether I want to read the first screenful etc. I guess what ever I have read, I am willing to risk doubling my effort if so far it was worth it.

So, I can read a long tale, but it has to grab me quickly. I want confirmation as soon as possible that this is my kind of story.

I think that if I ever find the tale that panders to me perfectly, I will just keep pressing that pagedown button with my paw until I starve.

Some of my very favorite stories (literotica especialy) are longer ones, but I tend to read through the shorter ones more, simply because they offer a simpler response. Read, enjoy, move on. If I find a longer story that's rated well, or that is on a subject I enjoy, or by an author that I like, however, I'll sit down and plow through the whole thing, and usually I'll enjoy it much more than a shorter story becuase there is much more room for development, change, tension and excitement. Sometimes, though, it's hard to get driven enough to really bite into some of the meatier stories. Pity.

I agree with the majority of the posts here. I would rather read a long story, but not all in one fell swoop. Give me three pages at a time, and then give me chapter two. It's pleasing to everyone, plus I personally would rather write in increments than one gigantic story.

I'll read a story all the way through if it's hot. no matter how long or short it is.

I'd prefer that they be longer than one printed page, but how long is too long? One of my stories that I wrote years ago, is 55 printed pages long, and nowhere near complete...
