As if to underscore how oblivious to commission of crimes by Republicans they are, the fake "news" web site Breitbart and the Fox tabloid are going all out to discredit those who provided information to real news organizations about ex-National Security Advisor Michael Flynn's lies.

Their goal is not to get the truth of the matter or even comment on the crime itself. Nope, they are more concerned with who leaked the information and how to handle damage control for the floundering Trump administration rather than reporting on what happened.

Even Flynn himself, the criminal in question, has attempted to claim those who leaked the news of his crimes are the criminals, not him, when he said in an interview, "You call them leaks," he said, according to The Daily Caller. "It's a criminal act. This is a crime. It's not just a wink and a nod."

Now mind you, when leaks were flying left and right during the Obama administration these fake news sites were more than happy to ask questions and dig for more leaks, yet when their own white supremacist editor is in the mix or when panic begins to set in that the Con Artist in Chief might be the next one up for investigation, suddenly it's a crime to report on the commission of a crime.

I think we can score this one a big win for real news.

How is Flynn a criminal? What law did he break??

From what I know, there was nothing particularly wrong about what he said to the Russian ambassador- don't over react, let the transition happen, and let us deal with the situation. By not properly reporting his conversation, he may have left himself open to blackmail, but the conversation itself seems unremarkable.

And yes, there is a genuine concern that the CIA (NSA?) may have violated the law by recording Flynn. Now he surely knew "they" were probably listening (conversations with foreign diplomats are routinely tapped) but by law a US person's words are supposed to be "minimized" in any recording. Leftists such as I take you to be were outraged (not unreasonably) when the NSA was caught doing that to domestic conversations, but you seem to have no problem doing that with Flynn. Certainly it is outrageous that his conversation was leaked- again, you seem to have no problem with that. Little hypocrisy, maybe?

This smells like nothing so much to me as backstabbing of a perceived rival within the US intel agencies.

It does surprise me that a retired three-star would lie to the VP, or at least not be forthcoming on an important matter, but that does not a crime make. But I get the strong sense that for someone like yourself, simply the unsubstantiated smear is enough to satisfy you- your over the top rhetoric is simply intended to vent, not inform. Perhaps it "convinces" minds similar to your own.

What crime did he actually commit? The Logan Act bars private citizens from conferring with governments, but Flynn wasn't exactly a private citizen.

The Logan Act for starters. Google is your friend. You might do research before asking dumb questions.

Good luck with that, being as no one has actually been indicted under the Logan Act since 1803.

I'm sure they'll consult with you personally for your ruling before they try to use it.

As I'm sure they will rush right over to consult you about your insightful national security and legal analysis.

Knock your socks off... I have to do barn rounds anyway.. Gotta close up you know..

Wait, wait, they may call you for your ruling while you're gone. The whole world might be waiting for you to tell them what they can do or not. :D

Well it looks like the Logan Act did it's job for 214 years then. Not surprising that the Trumpanzies overlooked that. I doubt they have read anything older than Mine Kampf.

That's OK, Box, Trump's going to do away with the courts, so we won't be bothered by any of the constitutional question stuff.

See Box's response below, you snotty little jerk.

It might be difficult at the end of December to call Flynn a "private citizen" when applying criminal law. Sally Yates, the acting attorney general, called the intercepted call "potentially illegal" under the Logan Act. Sounds like it's not a slam dunk at all. It's a bit of a stretch to go from "potentially illegal" to describing something in no uncertain terms as being "criminal". But then I think the concept of mens rea (intention of wrong doing) might also come into play, and it's not clear to me how criminal intent could be ascribed.

But of course, you are not interested in intelligent discourse. Snotty, banal, juvenile comments are your stock in trade. What a prince of a so-called man you are.

Actually, the Logan Act has been broken several times, but it may not have been prosecuted. The Act may not even be Constitutional.

It is impressive that these banal leftists want to trot out a law that, according to wikipedia, has never been prosecuted despite being on the books for over 200 years (updated in the 1990's). I am no lawyer, but it seems dubious to me that the Logan Act could be used against Flynn and, as you suggest, might be difficult to use against anyone. But these yammerheads are certain that Flynn is a "criminal" because he may have violated a dubiously enforceable law. It's apparent to me that these people either have no sense of the legal fabric in this country, with its bewildering panoply of laws, or just assume that few people will bother to question their over-the-top claims. But of course, their real goal is not concern about the security of the USA, but rather they seek any weapon they can find against Trump.

While Flynn may have shown poor judgement, it's not clear to me that he jeopardized the USA in any way by his call. His misleading statements about the nature of the conversation, were probably more important, and possibly could have left him open to blackmail. But these same mindless leftists simply couldn't be bothered much when a Secretary of State says, about a hapless film maker, that "we are going to have him arrested" when it was her own ineptitude (and possible dereliction of duty) that lead to the debacle in Libya.

I hardly watch any national news or press briefings any more. I get my daily info about the Trump admin from late-night monologues.

Have you guys ever watched CNN or NBC or MSNBC? If you want an example of false news, left wing propaganda and out right lies take a look at them. Freedom of the press is pretty much dead in this country. And don't pat FOX on the back. You saw how four of their people were paid off by NBC to get FOX to become more like the other fools. Now even they jump on the lie band wagon half the time.

Most of the people in this country know they are being lied to by the media with false stories, censorship, and out right lies. The people found out (those that were still fool enough to believe anything the Joseph Goebbels wannabees put out) after the election when all the polls and reports from the media were shown to be fixed and lies.

Name one leftist country that has a free press. Has unions. Has an education system that really teaches and allows anyone to pick where they wish to be educated and what courses they can pick. Name any leftist country that has human rights for men let alone women. Where the courts give you a fair trail. (many of our courts are political not judicial). Name one leftist country with an open border and where the border is not to keep people out, but to keep them in.

More, please. Take your time--maybe thirty minutes this time--to write another rant that I'm not going to read. Really put all of your anger in it. Turn red; bite your tongue; foam at the mouth. Don't hold back. I promise not to read it. :)
