OOC: This is based on an actual incident from my past.

My character, Joe, is killing time in an adult chatroom, hoping as usual that he may get a chance to cyber, but knowing that the other chatters are mostly guys, so he's ok with just hanging out, if it comes to that.

He greets a female chatter who seems pleasant and invites her to go into private chat. What he doesn't realize is that she has come into adult chat mostly out of curiosity, not actually intending to talk dirty or anything like that.

Since he doesn't realize her "innocence", he starts to lead her into a fantasy.

To her surprise, his kindness and imagination make her want to follow his lead, even when he changes gears and asks to direct her real life actions, which leads to a real life climax.

Please PM me with your thoughts about your character if you want to be Joe's girl. Note that this thread is largely about the buildup of erotic tension, and you will need to be able to convincingly portray your character's intrigue at meeting someone nice in a place that she'd been afraid would be pretty nasty.

Since we'll be simulating chat, we will indeed have some dreaded "one-sentence posts", but these should be balanced by those that let us see the characters' thoughts, feelings and action. The female part here is the more complex one.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was a slow night in adult chat, Joe thought. Typically slow.

As usual, most of the chatters were guys, and a few were being jerks just for the attention. Joe wondered how anyone's mentality could remain forever stuck at the junior high school level, then reflected that they were probably still in junior high school, despite the chatroom's age requirement.

He noticed a female nick and offhandedly addressed a greeting to her: Nice night. I hope the company isn't too rough for you? What sort of evening are you having?

Jenna was bored. It seemed as if all the few guys who messaged her wanted to know was what size bra she wore and what color her panties were. She was just about to log off, sick of reading the scrolling arguments between two people on the main chat page, when a message popped up on her screen.

Nice night. I hope the company isn't too rough for you? What sort of evening are you having?

The chatter seemed pleasant enough, not to mention actually typed in competent sentences, so Jenna decided to stick around and talk a while.

Jenna_xoxo: Not too rough...just too annoying. Not to mention, juvenile. But, other than that, I've been okay tonight. Just glad for a chance to finally relax after a busy week. How about yourself?

OOC: I went ahead and added a screen name. Thought it might make it easier to keep straight.

Well, that was a nice surprise. Someone who actually wanted to talk like an adult often seemed like a relative rarity in "adult" chat.

Joe started hunting and pecking a response:

Joe: Pretty much the same here. Not ready to go to sleep, not enough energy to do anything useful. I think they call it winding down. /=)

BTW, sorry to PM without asking first, but the main room was scrolling too fast to keep up with. Is this ok?

Jenna smiled. The man...Joe, she assumed his name was...was literate and intelligent. She was surprised to find such a person in a chat room like this. She was starting to wonder why she had even come to the room in the first place; now she remembered.

Jenna_xoxo: Yeah, this is fine. I know what you mean...that scrolling is crazy. Those internet "fights" get pretty intense, I guess.

So...I'm assuming here that your name is Joe...what're you up to tonight, aside from winding down? Anything interesting going on on your end?

Well, I'm sitting alone in front of my computer, hoping to find someone to pretend to have sex with me, Joe thought sardonically, but of course he wasn't about to actually say that.

Joe: Yeah, Joe's my real name...I use it in chat because it's so distinctive.

My life is pretty quiet... Went out with friends for Thai food yesterday, and I'm reading a fantasy novel. Waiting for the weather to warm up a bit so that I can get outdoors again.

What exotic and exciting things are happening with you?

Jenna smiled and quirked an eyebrow at his word choice. 'Exotic' and 'exciting' were not two words she would use to describe her life, particularly not her love life. Not that she was about to tell Joe that.

Jenna_xoxo: Mmm...Thai is my favorite. The weather's okay here, but it's still a bit chilly. I'd like spring to get here so I can get out and go camping eventually.

Nothing exciting is really happening here. I've finally settled into my new job, but my life's kind of settled into this mundane...rut...thing.

Joe's eyes lit up when he read Jenna's mention of camping. Not that Jenna could see it.

She liked the outdoors too!

It was a small thing, but finding a real commonality could make a huge difference. He had been in chats where he'd found so little common ground with the other chatter that it had seemed like they'd been speaking different languages.

Joe paused to think for a quick moment. She'd said that she was ok with the two of them remaining in "private" mode, so apparently she liked him, at least a bit.

He was almost certain that she'd wait for him to make the first move, though, and he didn't want to spend too much time on small talk lest she get bored.

He decided that he'd better take a hint and use the opening she'd just given him.

Joe: Mundane ruts can be very bad. Perhaps, just for this evening, we should dream ourselves someplace less mundane...

I'm dreaming of a long, lazy summer day, and a path through the woods that leads to a secluded lake where we can spread a blanket over a bed of fallen pine needles and sit together, by the water.

How does that sound?

Jenna frowned. This was odd. She wasn't exactly sure what was going on, but she figured she might as well go along with it. The conversation had been going well up until that point, so, what could it hurt?

Jenna_xoxo: Um, that sounds great. Too bad it can't be a reality, though.

That sounded almost defensive. Almost as though she was warning him not to confuse their chat with reality.

Joe wondered if his style was confusing her. There were people in adult chat who expected something much more blatant and just didn't know what to make of Joe when he tried to set a scene that was romantic.

Perhaps he'd better try to reassure her that he wasn't some delusional Internet wacko.

Joe: No, Jenna, I'm afraid that there's very little reality here. The truth is that we're two people sitting at their computers and typing. I'm sure that we're both clear on that.

I apologize if I offended you by putting you into my little lake scene. It's based on a favorite place of mine, so in a sense you could say that it IS a reality. :=) But I'm afraid that, in here, imagination is the only way I have to share it, or anything else with you.

Would you rather discuss something else?

Jenna chewed on he fingernail thoughtfully. She still wasn't quite sure how to take this guy. She'd never done anything like this before, and she wasn't quite sure what Joe was getting at.

Jenna_xoxo: No, it's fine. No offense taken, really. It was just kind of...different.

I've never really had anybody tell me a scene like that. It was beautiful, really. Why don't you tell me more?

Joe: Well, I've always loved the lake because it IS beautiful...The bottom is sandy, the water is clear and it sparkles in the sunlight. Even on the hottest days, I've never felt really hot sitting in the shade of the pines.

I've often gone there alone, and enjoyed it. But when I go alone, I never stay as long. I don't bring a blanket to sit on. And sometimes when the sunlight turns the pines golden, or a deer comes down to the water to drink, I almost start to point, until I remember that there's no one else to see.

But...perhaps today I should bring a blanket after all...?
