My mental hard drive is skipping over a pop fiction sector and so I turn to ya'll as an ersatz brain trust.
There was a mainstream sci-fi/fantasy novel whose main character started out as a woman but was made male by operation of some I-can't-remember-effect/spell. The ex-heroine struggled with her new-but-entirely-conventional male libido mostly because she hadn't learned to cope by going through male puberty. That part of the story made a kind of running gag of it--"Seriously, is this what it's like to be a guy? Your testicles constantly making demands? How the fuck do you concentrate on anything for more than five minutes? Fine, fuck it, I'll go masturbate again."
Can't remember the novel. Going crackers. Please help.
