Anybody who read my very 1st post knows I just recently started shaving my pussy. I do like the feeling. :cathappy:

My "problem" is I really don't want to deal with it every day or every other day but I have to. I also wear glasses & frankly (forgive me if it's TMI) even when it was just my legs I can't always see what I'm doing & tend to miss a spot or two. That's not so bad when it's on my ankle -- I'll dry shave that no problem. But elsewhere -- OUCH.

Anyway, stupid questions:

1. Has anybody ever waxed it all off? What does that feel like? I can barely stand the pain when it's my eyebrows.

2. What exactly is a Brazillian wax? Can you post or point me to a picture if it's something other than completely bare?

3. Can I get a complete wax in a salon? If so, exactly how do I ask for one? Is it embarrassing to have somone you are not intimate with who's not your doctor work on that part of your body? More importantly, exactly what do you tip somebody for that?

TIA!! I love this site.

Waxing

I would normally wake the wife for this, but she has had a long day, so I will give you the perspective from the...the customer side of the house, I guess.

From what she tells me, it is somewhat painful. Now, the love of my life has a very high threshold for pain, so take that into consideration. I have had my crotch waxed once, and I have a new found respect for women giving birth to children. Jesus Christ, that shit really hurt.

Before I returned from Iraq my wife got a Brazilian wax, and it's all gone now, so I guess that's it. Ever since she started getting it waxed it has always been all gone, so that would be good supporting evidence. She has always just gotten it done at the regular spa type place she goes to, but I guess through the network of girls around here they find out who gives the best/least painful waxing, and then that is where everybody congregates.

Good luck! And if you don't want to shave every day, why not just pluck?

if money were no object...

I'd recommending going to Sona MedSpa (or equivalent place w/ Anderson laser machines) and have whatever hair you want laser removed there-permanently.

good luck!

A quick google search will get you all the info you'd ever want on "personal" waxes... and more... there are a wide variety to choose from... none of which I've ever had so I can't advise you on that.

Ladies don't pluck. We tweeze. ;)

I should think that tweezing pubes would be way more trouble than shaving.

I wax. It hurts. It's worth it.

There are lots of waxing etiquette sites on the net if you google for them, as well as tips on finding a good waxer. Definitely ask around for referrals, too; if you're shy, just ask for leg waxing referrals and call the salon for details.

Tipping is generally 15-20% of the cost. Do expect to pay dearly.

But again, it is sooo worth it!

Good luck!

keep the suggestions coming, please

Wow! That was fast. Thanks everybody.

Rattlesnake, two things. If you wouldn't mind asking your wife about the tipping, I'd be most grateful. Second, I assume you went to Iraq for your country. Without starting a political debate, THANK YOU.

Kinkyme -- I got too many menu choices when I opened the link. I'm not the most 'net savvy person out there. I appreciate the effort.

1girl2know -- I had a feeling laser was going to be the more painless answer I was looking for. Now all I need is better insurance, more cash or a rich man who wants to pay for it.

Eilan (& I think Rattlesnake who suggested it) -- if I am too impatient to shave, do you really believe I can pluck/tweeze all that hair? That sounds more painful than waxing. yikes!!

Dang, i'm sorry it didn't work for you. All I had to was scroll down some :(

Yeah. That was kinda my point.

I thought so, but have a tendency to misunderstand even well placed sarcasm on the net. Thank you for gently re-making your original point.

i would suggest getting waxed simply because it lasts longer and you don't get the bumps like you do with shaving.

That leads to a question that I have, how do you not get those little bumps after shaving? And if you do get them, how do you get rid of them? What should you do to get them to go away, and is it safe to shave if I have them?

Average, The bumps don't come after repeated shavings.I shave my wife and I shave myself. We don't get those bumps anymore. :D

Thanks pupper. I just started doing this like 2 months ago, so i guess that I am still going through the initiation stage.

Yes after shaving put some lotion on and get that sensitive skin in condition.

I adjusted after a short time of daily shaving, but I didn't do it daily when I had razor burn because I figured the area needed a break. I never get razor burn on the labia, but no matter how much I shave, I always do on the top part/mons pubis, so I just stick with shaping, shaving the places that don't get irritated, and a close trim there. I've noticed a few things that make a huge difference:
-Heat- Direct the hot water on the area for a few minutes, shave after a bath (that's not really practical for me, but some people take frequent baths), or soak a washcloth in the hot water, put it against the area, and re-wet if necessary until everything feels nice and warm.

-Razor- I've had good luck with non-disposable razors. My two favorites are the Schick Quattro (4 blades, I'm currently using the men's razor with the women's blades because they were on sale, the downside is the cartridges are expensive, but they don't need replacement too often) and the Gillette Sensor Excel (2 blades, but easy to hold, cheap to replace, and works great). I'm not sure how often I replace the blades (generally when it "feels" duller or like I'm not getting a good shave), but it's important to have fresh ones, and the non-disposable seem to last longer.

-Lotions & Potions- Some of the shaving products work great, others don't. I've had good luck with King of Shaves gel, baby oil, Skintimate, and mousse-like hair conditioner (Dove makes one). I put it on, rub it in, and leave it for a minute before shaving, and that seems to help.

I've found hydrocortisone cream to be an extremely cheap, reliable option for razorburn or other irritation. Generic brand will work fine, and you can get big tubes for a pittance at Costco. Some say products like Bikini Zone work, but I haven't tried them since I've had good results with the hydrocortisone cream.

waxing!! The very best!

I have been waxed multiple times, in multiple states. It is incredibly painful the first time, because there is nothing in the world that can prepare you for hairs being ripped from your vagina. But with each successive wax it becomes less and less painful. My first suggestion is research. If you live in a large urban area, it should be no sweat to find a good, experienced, professional waxer. Normally the good ones cost a little more, but to me, that is worth it. I don't want some ameture messing around with my parts.

Second.. there are different types of waxing and each salon may call it something different. Brazillian can mean taking it all off to one place, or leaving a strip down the middle to another place. Some places may call taking it all off a full bikini, so if the spa has a website utilize it and read up on it. If you can't get enough info that way, just call and ask what they mean by it.

As for your question How do you ask for one? and is it embarrassing? Look at it this way. If the salon offers the service, other people are getting it done there. There is no need to beat around the bush. The people (I have only seen women) that do this are trained professionals who do this every day. DON'T BE SHY, or your session won't go very well. You have to show it all, but keep in mind she has seen hundreds if not thousands of vaginas and she probably gets brazillians done herself. It's not as uncommon as you'd think.

When I go and get it done, I get my ass done too. That is part of the true brazillian, regardless of if you leave any up front or not. So, I have been on my knees and elbows on a table, ass cheeks spread while a woman put wax in my crack. Let me tell you, that can be incredibly embarrasing, but i tell myself she's done it a lot, she's a professional, and i need a good relationship with my waxer. And the rewards are ALWAYS worth it!

As for plucking, tweezing as someone pointed out, apparently way more of a girlie girl than me, but whatever, I call it plucking. I do pluck all the stray hairs that pop up between waxings. It makes it last a lot longer. It is not painful. Pull the skin tight, it doesn't hurt at all. (the waxer should be pulling your skin tight when waxing or asking you to help) Everyone who has waxed me has plucked as well. We ALL prefer it. Shaving is such a hassle. And you will get some ingrown hairs with waxing, as with shaving, because the hairs are sharp and as they grown back in that sometimes happens. There is a product out there in a blue bottle, i can't remember what it's called, but ask your waxer, they can recommend something. But scrubbing with a loofa while showering will help them come out.

As for tipping, I do 20% of the total. They are in the service business like anyone else, and I feel that is safe. Most of mine have ranged from 60 to 80 dollars so i leave between 12 and 16 dollars. But more if I feel the did an exceptional job. I think even 15 percent would be acceptable if you are on a tight budget, but if you want to go back to that person and you like them, leave them what you think they're worth.

One more piece of advice.... DON'T attempt a brazillian at home. After my first one I thought I could do it and save the money, BIG MISTAKE! I wound up with my husband having to rip strips of wax off me, in immense amounts of pain, and looking like my poor vagina had been mauled by some animal. Not good! Some people can do it, most can't. Even the waxers i've been too, have to have someone else do theirs. So, attempt at your own risk. Plus I don't think any wax product you can buy in a regular store is of the same quality as those used in salons.

SO! Happy waxing!!! It's addicting, even with the pain and it's worth it in the end to be smooth and soft. (and if i even have that much money, i will laser it all away for good!)

FSKitty --

Thank you so much for your extrmely frank response. That's exactly the personal experience I was hoping to hear about. I have to think very carefully about this. I really do have a very low threshold for pain.

I shave, and I have poor eyesight, too. I usually shave in the tub w/ my glasses on. Otherwise I'd be squinting and it wouldn't work.

I like the Venus razor. I hardly ever get razor bumps.

I shave, mostly by touch every other day or so. It works okay if not perfectly.

I got a bikini wax once. It hurt some but not too bad, cost a little about $20.00 before tip and was fast.

Once I tried a home kit and had to have my husband help. It was BAD with BAD bruising.

The only thing about salon waxing is this, semi public exposure, time and money and the big one, don't you have to let it grow out before it can be rewaxed?

Hi..... my boyfriend sent me the link to the thread that is going on about this, and suggested I add my two cents worth, so here goes.... Ya GOTTA try sugar waxing!! It's awesome! I began shaving and had the same experience as everyone else, including not wanting to do it so often. My girlfriend got lasered, and if you can afford it, that would be great, but here (Central CA) it was four treatments for $1,000. More than I can afford. She's a physical therapist and was lucky enough to be able to trade hers out with a girlfriend who does it professionally. Anyway, I came upon sugaring or sugar waxing as it is called in some places. It's not as painful as waxing. It's still painful, mind you, but she can use lidocaine cream on you first, and that does help. Also, if you take a motrin, tylenol or a xanax first, that helps too. After a couple of times, it begins to not hurt as much. As well, the hair that grows back, grows in thinner and finer. It's been two weeks now, and I still don't need to get it done yet. Next week will be fine. Originally it was $60 I think, but now it's down to $30 because there is hardly any hair there.
The "wax" is not wax - it's sugar, water and lemon juice. Check out the website on it: www.alexandriasugaring.com
It's the only way to go!! and your skin is soft as a baby's butt!!!

My husband bought a Gillette M3 vibrating razor (don't remember the exact name) today because he liked the cool design. I'm just wondering if they're any good. Anyone know?
