A three person marriage can and does work, but all three have to have the same type of personality. In theory your fantasy would work out well for you and your wife and whoever you add. Sadly in practice more often than not it does not work and ends up in a divorce.

That said, as a story idea it has merit, actually lots of merit. If you want it to be a beleivable tale I would think the best way to do it is you get a married couple who just had a gorgeous woman move in next door. I think if you're friends first, then it could be a lot like treating someone to a spa or taking them out to eat at a fancy resturaunt - a lot depends on how secure you are in your own sexuality, and how well you communicate - it works the same in any arrangement. I think a lot of men have this fantasy but most would never dare admit it. men are visual and love sex....I think there is nothing wrong with the fantasy or even living it out in real life, if the couple has an open and loving relationship. can you imagine anything better than pleasuring your partner and sharing that experience with him or her in a loving way with no jealousy?
