OK, so the point of this thread is to fuel more youtube addicts and to open people up to other music :)

As for these guys, give them a chance- i thought 'hell no' at first, but then listened properly to a few tracks and am captivated. I can't stop listening to them- Their stuff is instrumental. Thanks Misty

Strength in Numbers- Texas Red

~~ So, please share as i for one love listening to 'new' music.

Stevie Ray Vaughan - Pride & Joy

Stevie Ray Vaughan - Superstition (originally by Stevie Wonder - he does an appearance in the video)

Pearl Jam - Jeremy

The Black Crowes - Remedy

Fleetwood Mac - Landslide

Fleetwood Mac - Big Love (I saw this concert, it was amazing. Lindsay Buckingham all by himself in this one)

this one never fails to make me cry - family history:

Black Crowes - She Says She Talks to Angels

couldn't find a video, but it's on Rhapsody:

Fleetwood Mac - Bleed to Love Her (one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. This cd, The Dance, is well worth the purchase price. I've worn one copy out already.)

and, I couldn't possibly leave out:

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama

this song has incredible meaning to me. I first heard it in 1989 but it took on new meaning the first week of March 1993. Again, the audio is not the best but I wanted to share this with you:

if you are a fan of nickel creek you will recognize Edgar Meyer on the upright bass who often backs them up.

I cannot listen to this song without tears welling in my eyes.

Oh yes.

Rob, are you familiar with Phoebe Snow? ("Poetry Man")

I know the name. I recall hearing some things by her years ago, but nothing that pops into my mind.

For some reason, when I watched your La Vie En Rose video a few minutes ago, I thought of Phoebe Snow and thought you'd like her. Like Piaffe, she has a sound that I've never heard duplicated. Snow's is like a husky tenor saxophone, perfect for blues and soft jazz.

She had a hit single in the late 70s with "Poetry Man," won the Grammy for Best New Artist, and then disappeared from the radar. I learned later that she'd stopped touring to spend time with her daughter, who has Down's Syndrome, and that Phoebe Snow herself later battled a serious illness. I've often recognized her as the anonymous singing voice on TV commercials, and I know she's performed with Paul Simon, Donald Fagan, Bonnie Raitt and a lot of musician-fans who've kept her career alive. She's also Bill Clinton's favorite singer. Great minds think alike.

:p

The one album I've owned in various formats since I was a zygote, I bought because of "Poetry Man" and found a lot of Phoebe Snow's own poetry. Even her depressing lyrics are delivered with a gut-sy quality that never fails to lift my spirits.

I wish I was a soft refrain
When the lights were out I'd play
and be your friend
I strut and fret my hour upon the stage
The hour is up
I have to run and hide my rage
I'm lost again
I think I'm really scared
I won't be back at all this time
And have my deepest secrets shared

I'd like to be a willow
A lover, a mountain or a soft refrain
But I'd hate to be a grown-up
And have to try to bear my life in pain

~ from "Harpo's Blues"

Want to see if you recognize the voice? Amazon offers a tiny clip for free, via RealPlayer (mac) or Windows Media. Click here, scroll down to sample songs and find "Poetry Man." If you, too, were a fetus during the 1970s, you'll probably remember this song. But for appreciating that smoky voice, there's nothing better than "Harpos Blues"

Tonight, Tonight by the Pumpkins is a good one, whoever posted that.

I recommend anything by The Killers.

Anything with Victor Wooten or Jaco Pastorius playing. They are amazing bass players who revolutionized the instrument (Jaco died, but Victor is alive and writing amazing music). It's not for everyone because it's so eclectic (think a Picaso painting versus Monet), but it's amazing to see the proficiency they've developed and what they've accomplished. Thank goodness some people are still striving for greatness, not just trying to sell albums.

Also, Stanley Jordan is an absolute must see. His approach to guitar playing was completely unique at the time and something amazingly beautiful.

This is an evil thread. How can one work, if there are actual recommendations on here to listen to good music and watch the video? Grace, you never want me to meet a work related deadline again, do you?

Evil, I tell you. In the purest form.

P.S. Let me add some evil while I'm here. I'm stuck on these two:

Speeding cars (I'm not an O. C. Fan . . . just coldn't find a better video for this song.

S-Des, Wooten also plays with Bela Fleck. Check out Live Art if you haven't heard it.

While I will more often post my regular likes in popular culture, I wanted to share this completely brilliant artist with you. Her name is Alberta Hunter and she's not often enough noted in the world of jazz and blues. She has been sassy, dirty - VERY DIRTY and romantic in her songs, but as suspected You Tube doesn't offer much. Her music is hard enough to come by at HMV. Here is a very LONG string of songs that shows her brilliant diversity.

I was asked on another forum to post links to good shit from my neck of the woods (meaning Scandinavia). I might as well post it here too. Njoi. :)

The Soundtracks Of Our Lives, probably the best psych-retro rock band ever. Extra bonus for making totally crappy videos:
Bigtime
Firmament Vacation
Instant Repeater ´99

Madrugada, Norweigan mellow rock:
Majesty
Kids Are On High Street
Hands Up, I Love You

Mew, some kind of alternative rock thing from Denmark:
Comforting Sounds
The Zookeeper's Boy

Blue Foundation, catchy Danish electronica:
Silence
Save This Town

Röyksopp, quirky Norweigan electronica:
Remind Me

The Knife, borderline insane Swedish electronica:
We Share Our Mother's Health

Millencollin, it's Punk Rock straight up:
Kemp

Kent, Swedish emo-rockers who sing in their native tongue, so nobody knows of them outside of Sweden, where they pretty much have demigod-status:
Max 500
FF
Music Non Stop - rare English track.

Mando Diao, rock kids with a 60's retro vibe (and 2 altering vocalists):
Sheepdog
Mr Moon

Spånka Nkpg, what party music should sound like:
What I Need
