I keep toying with the idea of doing a mother-son romance, but I also get the feeling it would not be at all what the average male fan of this kind of story would be looking for. I'd write it from the mother's point of view, so there would be descriptions of his body and her attraction to it, not the other way around. I'd pick a situation where he was not raised by her, and he either wouldn't know they were related or he would think of her more the way you would some aunt or uncle you only see once a year, but always brings a present when they come. And I write mainly fantasy in some kind of low-tech setting, and often with non-human characters; it seems like a lot or readers don't have any interest in non-modern settings, while I'm the opposite and have zero interest in modern ones.

That is what I thought. Honestly like any other incestuous pairing there are readers who like "grope and go" Mom came into my room and started going down on me, is all they need.

However, I have learned that more than any other pairing Mother/son does have a big following for a slow romantic build up. They do enjoy a son being in love with his mother, seeing her as the most desirable woman they have ever known. Go ahead and write it, I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the results. I know I was.

Moving back on topic!

I, for one, love the slow build up with romantic implications in stories. It makes the story stand out with much more depth.

The situation where the son was not raised by the mother raises interesting possibilities. Perhaps once he turned 18, his "parents" told him the truth that they adopted him as a baby. So he sets out to find his birth mother and find out why she gave him up. When they meet, they start out getting to know each other and the attraction doesn't start until some time into the story.

There's a phenomenon for this called Genetic Sexual Attraction.

Something like that was featured on an episode of Nip/Tuck.

They use a lot of real life medical and psychological stuff on that show. For a few episodes, they had a storyline where an 18+ girl comes to find her dad, who's one of the male leads. She tells him that she's his daughter and he agrees.

In the mean time, his son meets the girl and they hit it off, not knowing that they're actually brother and sister- and they end up have hot sex and really falling for each other.

They eventually find out and freak the fuck out, it was meant to be humorous. The son looks it up online and tells her that it's common or something, but they're still freaked out...lol

Amazing show, I highly recommend getting the dvds.

I don't care about the setting... but the characters knowing their relationship during the act is important. Would love to read your ideas!

For me it's interesting if one knows and the other doesn't know, because there's more internal conflict and a stronger difference of context and flavor if I show one character's point of view, then the other. I wouldn't end the story without the other character finding out though, that would be the story's "darkest moment" where the first character has fallen in love despite knowing they are related, and realizes that if they do love the other they have to be truthful with them, but then will the other reject the relationship and decide the first is a horrible person?

I would write a story about a virgin son living with his widowed mother. The son is grief stricken after being rejected in love. His mother tries to comfort him. Eventually, they end up naked, and in bed together.

I would emphasize the emotional aspects of what they do together, rather than the physical aspects. What happens between them would happen naturally. It would not be planned by either of them. There would be a certain amount of reluctance by each of them. When they were finished they would agree that it was a wonderful experience that they would never tell anyone about.

I would not make it clear whether they intended to do it again.
