In the 7th grade I went all the way to the final round of the National Geographic geography bee. We flew out to Washington DC and everything. When I was up on stage the large audience staring at me was too much. I got knocked out on the very first question, which was "what state has the greatest population density?". I knew the answer, which was New Jersey, but I said California. Even as I was saying it I knew it was wrong. I think I wanted to escape or something.

The following year in the 8th grade I was knocked out of the bee very early on, on a local level.

A few years ago I watched the finals of the Geography bee on TV. I knew the answer to only about 20% of the questions but on a number of them I felt like I used to know that. Funny how memory works.
