Shameless self-promotion? Does anyone have a problem with this?

I recently had my erotic novel accepted for publication at an online publisher. I would like to do a little promotion at Literotica (put a link to the publisher) and persuade people to buy it.

Does anyone have a problem with this?

I'm a newly published author and I want to capitalize on all the readers of erotica here at Literotica.com.

I'm pretty certain that Literotica has a policy that forbids any commercial ads. You'd have to check with Lauren. It's a pretty shitty precedent to start, in my opinion.

"Capitalize?" To make a profit? Hell no, I don't think it's appropriate.

There's a kind of natural self-promotion that goes on here, I think, in the sense that by posting in the forums an author increases his or her visibility, intentionally or otherwise. Even though it's just internal to Lit, and even though there may be no financial reward from getting additional reads on a story, most of us still think of it as a positive thing -- as a profit -- when we get more feedback.

Self-promotion on Lit shouldn't seem like a paid (or perhaps underhanded) advertisement, though. If you really want to encourage people to read your (published) stuff, just start posting some stories here on Lit, make a name for yourself, and then include a link (from your member profile) to a personal external web site that mentions your other, published works. Many authors (and non-writing members) have external web pages, and I'm sure a lot of them promote commercial stuff (stories or other things) from those pages.

Or -- if you're just looking to capitalize on the built-in audience, as you say -- contact Laurel and see if you can purchase some ad space. I don't know if she would agree to it, and I don't really think it would be all that effective, but it's an option.

Congratulations, by the way -- for being published and for having the good sense to ask before posting an advertisement.

6. Any posts made with the intent of promoting another site or a product will be removed. You may not send unsolicited PM's or emails to other users trying to promote other websites or products. Literotica is not a place to promote other websites, and we are very strict on this issue. If you abuse this policy, you will be banned.

7. Please do not blatantly "advertise" for other websites in your signature. We allow non-commercial links to other people's personal websites in sigs, but please do not beg people to click on your link, make it huge and/or flashing, or otherwise be obnoxious.

We do not allow links to any adult pay sites. We also reserve the right to remove signatures which link to sites with numerous annoying pop-ups, viruses, or anything else potentially harmful to people's computers. If you turn your signature into an advertisement, we will ask you to change it. Do not start threads with the URL in the header.

This doesn't apply to when I throw in links to HP gossip sites or sites where you can watch cool HP illustrations, does it?

Dear Svenska,
Cool new AV, dear. I think when one of the regulars around here posts a link like that, it's informative for everyone else. Not that I, in any way, endorse anything to do with HP, of course.

I've done it myself to show off when that on line magazine did some of my stuff and again to get DurtGurl off the ground. Nobody seemed to mind, and it certainly wasn't spam. Ugh.

Yea I hit that link to Durt Durl's story, it didn't fuck my puter up, but didn't leave my brain in too good order.

Is that Spam, egg, Spam and chips as in the MP sketch.

Huh.

Awwww, c'mon, Pop. You know you loved it. Why not admit it?
It probably taught you a thing or two about writing.

maybe you could just put a note in your sig that says "for info on my newly published erotic novel, pm me"

that's nice and not obvious but people interested in what you're saying on the boards might click it.

I agree with the luscious one of Open Thighs that you should post some stuff, including stories, here, then, *after becoming known,* quietly supply links to a private sites.

It's simply exploitation of a free site, to stick an ad for yourself in your 16 th posting when --I gather-- no one's heard of you of from before. It's like attending a party--where no one knows you--- and wearing a sandwich board for the whorehouse you own.
