Myst's thread about perception made me think of this topic and how we perceive our voices.
I like the sound of my voice inside my own head but, of course, I realize it sounds totally different to everyone else. After hearing myself on tape, I get disgusted. My normal, natural speaking voice sounds so nasally and whiny and the furthest point away from sexy as there can be.
And when I try to sound sexy and hot and alluring, it ends up sounding like a combination of someone scalping a moose and a 15 car pileup on the highway.
In addition to visual cues, we also gauge sex appeal on our perceptions from our other senses as well. Many a night I have listened to a disembodied voice on the radio and fantasized about what the speaker looks like. If it is that beautiful, deep bass or baritone, it can do marvelous things to my nervous system.
What do you sound like? Does a person's voice guide you to them - make you more interested? Or could it even steer you away from them?
Granted, this is superficial, and if I am interested in someone's mind, I overlook something as shallow as this. But I am curious as to what others think.
