Sex toy smell

Anyone know how to get rid of the smell that sex toys seem to have? Big believer in all kinds of adult toys but some, especially the softer jelly kind, have a distinct odor. You really notice if you keep them in a drawer or box. Any ideas?

All the toys that we have, have that distinct odor. Someone recommended throwing them in a dishwasher to help "cure" the rubber a little more... To me that sounds like a good way to destroy your toys. I think moving to silicone is probably what you want to do at this point. Its much safer and nontoxic.

Wash after every use.
And, added,
Wash very well before first use in case your toy was used by quality inspectors during manufacture.
 
Wrap them in a clean towel and store in an air tight container. Of course once you open the container the smell will escape, but hey at least for a little while it didn't smell like sex toys in you bedroom. :D
 
Use sex toy cleaner, sanitizer and deodorant in the handy spray can.

I think Adam & Eve and several more place sells stuff like that.

with some materials you can't get rid of the smell. It's just what they are.
There are some materials that would have little or no smell at all. You may want to choose your toys with that in mind if you want a non-smelly ones. The general rule is: If the toy smells strongly in the shop - it will not stop smelling when you bring it home and wash.
 
That smell may be phthalates in the plastic. There are some health concerns about phthalates; this site has a reasonably sober discussion of it. If they have a strong plasticky smell, they may not be good for you. Presumably a condom over the toy would be some protection, though.

If it smells like "a barbie doll fresh out of the box", it is likely to be PVC with lots of plasticizers.

Has any sex toy company come out with a pvc, bpa free toy? When Sex in the City first mentioned "rabbit vibrators" ten years ago woman bought the toys in thousands, not realizing they could potentially be causing uterine cancer.
I met one elderly woman who was going threw radiation. She confided in me that she had been using store bought produce for years as toys. She was certain the insecticides caused her cancer. She said although she was embarrassed, she felt compelled to share her story as a warning to any women she met.
