I am considering suggesting to my SO that we see a sex therapist. (I have no idea how I'm going to broach the subject yet, but that's a different issue!)

I have no experience of therapy (we don't really do therapy in the UK! LOL) so I've no idea what to expect. Other than looking at the general health of the relationship itself, I have no idea what to expect. I have no doubt sessions are tailored to the individuals needs, so there is no definitive answer to this, but I'd be interested to know what sort of format they take. (Especially from anyone who's actually been having problems and seen a sex therapist, and also especially from anyone in the UK).

fenghuang, what specific issue(s) do you want to address by seeing a sex therapist? i can't help re: what to expect with a sex therapist, but as to how to broach the subject, that part i might be able to help: ?

It's overly simplified, but our sexual compatibility extends only just beyond biological compatibility and we don't communicate.
Obviously it's more complicated than that, but that's where expert help comes in ... I hope.

i would suggest perhaps considering a relationship therapist before consulting a sex therapist: you've been on HT long enough to know the expression that problems in the bedroom have their roots elsewhere.

Fair point, but I was thinking that since we do ok "outside of the bedroom", that a sex therapist would help deal with the underlying issues. Hence the question.

(Maybe I should have said we don't comunicate about sex.)
