Here's the scoop on the age question:
While sex with a minor is illegal, writing about it may not be. However, nearly every newspaper article I've read regarding adult web sites has to mention kiddie porn, like that's all adult web is about.

Sure, if we allowed underage stories on Literotica, and some overambitious cop somewhere decided to try to put us away for some imagined crime, I could take it to the Supreme Court and I would probably win - free speech and all that. However, do I really want to be put away for months in the meantime? Do I want to give thousands of dollars to some lawyer?

The answer, of course, is no. I'm a firm believer in free speech. I have an open mind, and I think fantasy is great. However, I'm doing this site for fun, and jail just doesn't sound that fun.

That being said, I appreciate the feedback and your opinions on this subject. Your input is important to us, and we keep it in mind whenever we make decisions that affect the site.

hey laurel, im a recent registered member, though i've been reading here for a while, AND i don't mean to argue what you just said because i agree with you, but aren't the "non-consent" and "non-human" stories equally as illegal as the stories involving minors?? it's all just letters put together to form a story, i think its too bad we cant see those kind of stories posted(involving minors)

non-consent scenarios can be set up quite legally if they are agreed to by all involved parties ahead of time. non-human, well, no laws (except moral ones) exist to stop you from fucking your dog/sheep/visiting alien friend. The one law set in stone that you just cannot get around is sex with a minor. That's why you could read a story about an alien and a dog and fourteen carnival workers raping an 18-year-old virgin with a lollipop but not a story about a 17 year old having consensual sex with her boyfriend.

My hat is off to you, Laurel. While stories, such as that of the Pamela Smart case, turn most people on. It also make others sick to their stomoch. I am a new member of this website but I have read stories of that nature from other story websites. While some were a turn-on, I felt strange because of it. Certainly, I didn't have the urge to go out and rape a young girl after reading them but it gave me an uncomfortable feeling about myself. Characters in these stories were girls as young as 12 to 14. In one case, a 14 year old girl who loses her virginity in a rest stop restroom and learns that she prefers to be a slut. All I can say is, thank heavens that these are fictions. Keep up the good work, Laurel.

Since there are plenty of story sites out there on the WWW that DO allow underage characters in sex stories,
I am not sure what Laurel and Literotica are so uptight about.(I tend to skip over most such stories,I'm not saying they're my taste).
Anyway,the age of consent is not always 18 in the USA,and there ARE laws against bestiality in a number of states,and the rape situations told of in stories here are
clearly NOT always arranged-and-consented-to-in-advance.
Management can set what policies they like(I would exclude a lot of things others like from any erotica site I ran)
but users can certainly question the reasoning behind them.

Just because other sites do something does not make it right, or even legal. As far as I know, 18 is always the age of consent in the US. Like I said, read my post in STORY IDEAS. I'm happy to address any comments and concersn you all have, but don't want to repeat myself.

Not trying to give a hard time,just correct errors of fact.
Laurel says "As far as I know,18 is always the age of consent in the US",and she doesn't know as far as http://www.ageofconsent.com/ does.
I live in a state where the age is 17,and in ALL neighboring states it is 16.
The age of consent is 18 in the following states only:Arizona,California,Iowa,Oregon,Tennessee,and Wisconsin.
In some states it's higher for homosexuals and it's 18 if you're out of your home state.
The ageofconsent.com site generally quotes chapter and verse from the relevant laws.
Anyway,Laurel has the right to bar under-18 characters here from being sexually active,she just shouldn't think this is illegal everywhere.

hello all, it's kip carson.
Why not leave the age uncertain, and the viewer can imagine what ever age they would like. Alot of times, I do not put any ages on the females in my stories, and that can leave a lot to the reader's imagination, and
no one gets a bum rap for underage content being posted. Am getting negative responses
on my story "the African Safari". oh well you can't win them all, right.
