I picked "story first" in the poll, but I must admit there *are* stories that I enjoy first and foremost for the sexual aspect, the story being nothing more than a "justification" of the settings (Ă la average porn scenario). In my own stories, I'd say "Snow White and the Apple" is a good example of a story where sex is the most important thing. Or lilguy's "Cartoon Lover"; I wrote a lot of stuff about the Jetsons, but it's almost only sex, sex and more sex.
However, there are many others that I enjoy for the adult only aspects but that would be very, very shallow if it weren't for the storyline. I think about my french Lara Croft story where I intend to develop the adventure a lot, or about stories to which I've contributed like GoldenEye or Lycanthropy.
I've found that as time passes, I end up paying more and more attention to the "background" story. Sex is still important, but it comes when it feels "natural" to the storytelling; I don't feel the need to squeeze in sexual tidbits whenever I have the chance. But I always need a story or two where I can say "screw the plot" and let my mind go wild.
Both have their merit... But if I had to live with just one, I'd pick the story over sex option.
The story is the biggest part of it for me. For instance, I write MC stories because the total control is such a turn on for me. I guess what I mean to say is the taking is more important to me than the having. I just see a sexfest story as a kind of easy out. Most people I ask find it easier to create a sex scene than a plotline.
well,
a 5 rating can be many things. It's hard to classify it into those groups. I voted for the story being better. I think sex is great and having a little sex to break up a story is great. It releaves tension from the storyline. It's lighter... or harder... depending. lol.
I guess the people who vote based upon the sexual content of the thread don't visit the lit boards. I am surprised I thought the first one or two options would garner more support.
