Ok, sex is not really boring, but sometimes I find that I'm reading a story and when they get to the sex, it's boring! I think it's because nothing else is happening, the 'conflict' is over, the problem solved. In those situations, the story 'peaks' before the sex does, and the proper ending would probably be, "And then they screwed and lived happily ever after." Anybody else ever get bored by the sex part of the sex story?

i know what you mean, i've been trying to finish my first story and am stuck on the grand finale, sex is hellish to write about and keep it all interesting. still fun to do in real life though

I've written, read ,and had boring sex so yes.

Anytime you're worried that your sex scene may be getting boring, go read Jean Auel's books, from volume 2 on. I think she discovered cut and paste. Everytime the main male character makes love to the main female character he does it exactly the same way in exactly the same sequence. By the time you've read this for the 20th time, you can recite exactly what she will be thinking about while he does it. And remember, she's a bestseller.

I would imagine it depends on who's reading it. I'd think that a majority of the regulars in the AH are reading lit stories for reasons not solely associated with the 'stroke' .. For those of us like that then yes, I'd imagine that if the story peaked before the sex did, it'd be boring..

I find I generally agree with this. Most of the stories I read and write I find the buildup and resolution far more interesting than the actual sex scene. In fact I will generally read the story fairly closely and skim the sex or skip it altogether. Later on I will usually read the whole story, but for some reason I find the build up to the sex more interesting.

My fave Lit. authors commingle all story, erotic and writerly elements so that I'm satisfied thoroughly. A feat worth reading, and rare.

There are only so many different ways to say "and then they fucked" before it gets repetitive.

I think you need to look at your story and see if "And then they fucked" would suffice. Sometimes it would! Course people aint gonna like that!

I'm an oddball too.

Unfortunately the stories on Lit become too much like video porn after a while. She gives him a BJ. He eats her out. They fuck. Cum ends up everywhere. Alternate Scene: She gives him a BJ while he eats her girlfriend (who just happened to show up). Girlfriend eats her while he fucks girlfriend. ETC.

After a while it does become disinteresting just because of the repetition. For that reason when I read a story the sex gets skipped. If there is anything else worth reading I vote for the story.

Personally I think a story has to have another purpose, angle, driving force, than just sex.

Sex and sexual attraction is a good way of "outing" your characters, making them "real", giving the reader something to relate too.

Human emotions and the way individuals express them are tools in the writers' box of tricks, you should use them all, but use them carefully.

Too much of one, or in the wrong place at the wrong time ruins the story....

I've written at least one story without any actual sex. The sex has to be supplied by the reader. It seemed to work as well as many of my other stories.

Sometimes you can excite the reader without explicit sex.

I don't know. Sex is such an interesting activity and so much is going on during it...

I think if it's boring to write it must be because it's gratuitous. Maybe like Ogg says, it just doesn't belong in the story and you're making your characters do something they don't want to do. Or maybe you're stuck in a rut writing about it, like ffreak says about Jean Auel.

I could see how it could be boring writing about the same old in-and-out, but when you think of how interesting foreplay is, how it's different every time, how much character you can reveal by what kind of things they do, how many senses are involved, it's hard to see how it could be boring.

Yeah, I know what you mean. At the moment, I have the love, sex, and time of my life. But there have been times in the past that have made me go through exactly the same. (sans D&G) It's sad when something so downright fun as sex gets reduced to a routine chore.

Sugar, re. sex becoming routine, I vividly recall thinking my last husband and I were making love when it struck me suddenly mid-stroke that we were only mutually masturbating. I pushed him off and explained it to him. I was painfully angry. He merely turned over. It was only one factor in the death of our marriage, but particularly telling.

I got a feedback on a story yesterday:

There is NO sex in that story. The whole story is anticipation and build up. I responded to the guy and we emailed back and forth a couple of times. He is firmly convinced the whole story is one long fuck scene.
