So here's a bit more heavy story. The background is that in Utrecht there's the 'werfkelders'. These are basements that end up right to the waters edge, and run under the elevated street to under the warehouses. There's many lost, still waiting to be discovered. The municipality thinks easily over 200 of these basements are still around the city, with some suspected places as the roads their quality is often dependent on them.
A woman convinces her friend to try to explore them. She discovered that her grandparents house has one such undiscovered basement, and suspects that many along the street have similar undiscovered basements.
In their exploration they see many boxes with old stuff in them. Powder, metals, old benzine. Curiously there's a door on the side, which when they open it leads to the neighbours basement. They have sex there, which is amazing.
However, every time they explore they find new things, and every time when he starts to ask certain questions they have sex and return afterwards to freshen up. Questions like "where is this stuff coming from?" or "what are we searching for?"
They might need a boat to float to other basements, which can be under bridges.
Eventually the truth is revealed when they discover some nazi uniforms. Turns out that she knew that during WWII the nazis had occupied houses in the area, including her grandparents house. Many basements became inaccessible when they bricked up the entrances, so they could hide all kinds of stuff in the centre of the city.
She hoped to find treasure, like gold and art. Her discomfort came with the questions, as she hadn't figured out if she would turn it in or use it for her own gain. The sex distracted him as well as herself from her moral quandary.
How it ends is still uncertain. The mundane stuff they found can already be great finds, and reporting more expensive stuff can still lead to some things they want, like recognition. Though they might find a single solid gold bar or piece of lost art that could be worth millions to the right obscure collector.
We can add some fantastical elements through drugs. (Experimental) Drugs were often used to boost morale, and the old powder changed properties, which they inhaled at the start of every exploration.
This way we have a story arc that starts whimsical, but turns more intense later. It'll be a bit of intrigue, not knowing why she wants to explore with such passion, and why certain questions lead to passion. Two points of tension within the story, leading to a tumultuous conclusion of moral quandary and sex.
Edit: could also be some secret bunkers, like secret metro lines or abandoned nuclear hunkers for world leaders in wartime. Treasures of these rich and powerful possibly forgotten or left behind for whatever reason.
