Sex drive and depression

While I don't suffer from debilitating depression, I do have bouts of feeling down every few months that can last a week or two. It is hard getting out of bed, sleeping longer hours, a reluctance to be social, etc.

The interesting thing about these times, is that my sex drive increases drastically. I find myself masturbating and watching porn more frequently, I experience a surge in exhibitionist feelings, and a general increase in feelings for sexual proclivities.

During "normal " times, my sexual arousal and activities with my wife are "normal," no complaints on my end or my spouse's.

I would think depression would suppress my sexual urges, but it is the complete opposite. Was just curious if anyone else experiences the same thing, men or women....

What you have described is a almost the same succession of events that has been happening to me for 45-50 years, I always called it "the shit" because it was different from what I knew as depression because of the increase in sexual needs and desires; as well as the maddening drive to achieve sexual satisfaction.
In my preteen years there were many instances of where because of 'the shit' , I could've become a serial rapist, fortunately it didn't work out that way. I went a totally different way in the criminal underworld instead...
