Okay. I haven't seen most of the photos -- just some guy with underpants over his head and another one on a leash like a dog -- pretty standard SM fare. I presume there was a lot worse.

The resemblance in the photos shown on TV here in the UK to SM porn is uncanny.

I think Americans would have quietly approved of more standard torture techniques, as practiced by governemnt enforcement people worldwide.

So is it the sexual nature of these photos that's at the heart of the outrage?

Standard American toruture techniques would consist of eyes propped open being 24/7 subjected to Jerry Falwell, or George W. In comparision to a bunch of naked guys piled on top of one another It looked like typical bathhouse fare.

Which is, no doubt, what's 'outrageous darling'.

I don't think it's so much the general sexual nature of the photos, but rather the overtly 'homosexual' nature of the photos.

If there hadn't been a sexual aspect, it probably wouldn't have caught most people's attention. Maybe the nudity is what made the photos so much more shocking to the pres than the written report.

Psychological torture is much more useful than physical torture as it is deeper and long lasting. The sexual content is merely a means of breaking spirit without breaking the body.

I'm sure lots of research must have been done in order to discover which method is best. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to discover that the highlighted method is only effective on a small percentage of the prisoners. But that's not to discount personal pleasure in the equation and moral boosting for those participants in the captors side.
