I have this friend who is recovering from childbirth, I ask her if she had any full intercourse yet with her husband after this 2 months recovering and she said nope and wont for a long long time to come. Actually I think she is a bit afraid of the pain.

how long have you waited (or guys your SO) after giving birth to have full intercourse, I mean penetration? Was it painful? and guys, was it different?

8 weeks per doctor's orders.

It wasn't painful. Of course, I didn't have either a cesarian or an episeotomy (sp?). I didn't particularly enjoy it either. The tide of hormones had yet to recede.

My doctor said 6 weeks, or when I felt up to it.

I felt up to it @ 8 weeks, and it wasn't painful, nor particularily fulfilling - as KM said - hormones.

Well since my kids are really old and I suffer from CRS, I think it was like 6-8 weeks.

Ummm.....6 months with my first, although sleep deprivation also played a major part! Didn't take as long after numbers 2 and 3 though.

at my first child I had an episiotomy, it was a long recovery, I think I wait 3 months for my intercourse. At my second I told them I didnt want one so they were better strech me good and take their time deliver my baby, so I only a little tears, 2 weeks later I had intercourse.

Today they dont do episiotomy, anyway here in Quebec, they found that spontaneous tears were less painful for women than episiotomies. With my friend they let her "tears free"... she have more then 80 surgical suturing points... ouch!

The amount of time we waited went down with each one. After our 7 year old, it was around 2 months. And it was painful the first few times.

With our 4 year old, I think we waited like 4 weeks.

With our 1 year old, it wasn't even a week, but we stuck to anal completly until I was cleared at the 6 week mark, because I was torn up really badly, and we were afraid of ripping my internal stitches.

The pain depends on a few things, I think. 1 thing is definatly if you had stitches afterwards. I don't know about others, but I noticed a definite lose in elaticity in the spot where I tore and had to be stitched, all 3 times. That can affect how comfortable it is, because it feels tighter.
