Jacqui’s fingers moved over the consol and watched as images played across the screen. It felt like a long time since she had allowed herself to indulge in those memories; since she had allowed herself to consider putting her career aside once more. Hitting the shutdown button, she turned and crossed the room, ignoring the habitual series of bips as the programme automatically updated the viewing history before clicking into dormant mode.

It was strange, so unexpected. She knew she was hardly too old for her new assignment, far from it, but she had gotten the impression that the Federation valued her diplomatic skills more than her reproductive abilities.

Jacqui was a product of the system. Born as a result of the “Genesis Project” her parents had been selected by the Federation as a genetic match. She had been bred and raised within the state nurseries with regular if sparse virtual contact with her parents. She knew she must have what would have been called in the Olden Age brothers and sisters; or rather she knew both her mother and father had produced other offspring with other mates. She did not concern herself with the details and contact between genetic siblings was unheard of nowadays.

Of course “family” units still existed in the more primitive settlements, when emotion and impulse directed unplanned coupling and where people gathered to live in extended, unstructured groups. Jacqui had learned about this and indeed studied the psychology of human motivation. She knew that such communities believed that emotional support and group identity were paramount, but Jacqui had been taught that individuals held their own identity and worth and that these qualities were largely determined by genetics, but could be enhanced by appropriate training. To her this had made perfect sense. A belief reinforced by the first mate she had been coupled with; a man of experience who was 15 years her senior. He had taught her much not only introducing her to forms of sexuality, but by reinforcing her sense of duty filling her with the determination to live up to the demands the Federation would continue to make of her both as a mother and as a diplomat.

Jacqui sighed and flipped open the file she had printed out from the computer data she had been sent. There was no picture, merely a name and a list of credentials. The man was about the same age as her second mate and yet her last birthing had taken place 6 years ago. It hadn’t made sense until she had realised. This man was an Initiate to the system, Initiate being the term the Federation gave to an individual who had not yet been called upon to “breed”. She knew it were usual for an older partner to be chosen for female Initiates, but until now, she had not considered that the same might be true for males. Females were required to be virgins before intitation, yet as long as the male was certified as “clinically pure”, he had less restrictions put upon him.

Setting the file aside, Jacqui knew that there was little more to learn about him before the first meeting. She wondered what his reaction was to the summons to the Programme. She could imagine him reading her basic information, her name, age and list of credentials:

Jacqueline Marsaut – Age 32.
Psychoanalyst - Galactic Alliance of Diplomatic Consultants G.A.D.C.

Areas of study/expertise:

Biological development and life forms,
Civilisation and Models of Society,
Interpersonal contact and Negotiation,
Language and Linguistics,
Psychology and The Inner Consciousness,
Hostility: tactics and avoidance
The Arts – spiritual fulfilment

Even inexperienced as he was, she knew that whatever his personal feelings to the orders he had received, or how he felt about being coupled with a woman of her age and experience as a mate, he could not defy the orders given. In fact, the expectation was that a maximum time of 18 months would be given from meeting to birthing. If any couple failed to produce a child for the Project, both would be subjected to extensive testing and re-evaluation.
Jacqui had been aware of this from her first days as an Initiate at the age of 23 and hadn’t been concerned about this … until now…
Now it was she who was the experienced partner and as such it would be part of her job to explain the finer workings of the “Genesis Programme”, answer any questions about parenthood and of course although she assumed this man would not be inexperienced, Jacqui knew that an exploration of sexuality might be on the agenda too.
Either way, she knew that this Initiate would be totally different to her two previous mates!

OOC:

At the age of 32, Jacqui is efficent and professional.
Working as a diplomat means that she is not uniformed.
Jacqui dresses appropriately for the assignment in hand.
She always combines smart with feminine.
Her mating experiences have turned the academic and rather serious young lady into a sensual and sexually confident woman.

Roland

Roland grew up a product of the system. A system that had been created many decades ago by the Federation. He did not know his last name - if he did have a last name nor did he ever meet his birth parents ever in flesh, but knew of his parents through infrequent virtual holovision contact.

All he knew was his parents were part of the mysterious 'Genesis Project' and his rearing from infanthood, childhood to early post adolescence was through the state nurseries and then special educational schools. Roland was not the only child there, there were scores of others with nearly perfect physical features like himself and extreme capable mental and emotionally strong IQ's.

Roland was tested at the age of 18 in a range of field studies and tests to find out where his strengths lay. The tests revealed Roland to have a high aptitude for Social Psych of humans and animals and a strength in Intrinsic and Applied Psycho-history probability telling - in other words Roland through mathematics and the study of humanities past and present could give brief futuristic estimates. Roland had been tested on both strengths and in tests his estimates on future events 6 to 12 months down the track proved to come to fruitition.

Soon after Roland was sent to work in the Federation department of Galactic Alliances of Diplomatic Consultants, better known as G.A.D.C. Here his skills flourished and he was given his own office and desk and worked with a group of scientists in the fields of Sociology and Applied Psycho-history. There was a link between the two fields and Roland worked methodically and published his first Federation Holovision book called "A short future history of the Federation." This book was given mixed critiques and was officially endorsed when he turned 22.

Roland was dedicated to the agenda and principles of the system and the federation. He knew of nothing else but doing the will of the system. Due to his work committments Roland did not have a social life and had no dealings with women outside of work, as in social occassions. He was a virgin, and it had never occured to him that he could be picked for 'Initiation'.

Just after he turned 26, he was requested by order of a Federation Chaplain to attend a medical assesment and no other details were given to him. Roland dutifully obeyed and the assessment cleared him as 'clinically pure'. What this meant for Roland he had no idea.

Roland - Aged 27
Academician of Sociology and Applied Psycho-history
G.A.D.C

Until that fateful day he was summoned to the office of the Departmental Head of G.A.D.C. Here he would learn of the new 'project' he would take part in......

Roland would forever remember that day and that meeting with the Federation Chaplain who had explained to Roland, that he had passed the necessary medical and mental assessments and that it was time for him to partake in mating. Roland stayed dutifully quiet as he listened to the Chaplain and knew it was his duty to serve the system in anyway it required it. But within himself, he doubted if he would be able to mate with a woman, let alone a woman with experience. Roland had absolutely none. No prior experience with the opposite sex. But he promised the chaplain he would fulfill the role the system had set for him and finally before the meeting concluded, Roland was given the brief of his partner.

It was later that evening that Roland sat down awaiting his future mate to arrive on their first meeting in his 1 bedroom residence on Departmental property that he opened up the brief and read all about Jacqueline Marsaut.

OOC:

Roland at 27 is committed to the agenda and direction of the Federation.
Roland is dressed smart casual as his role does not need any uniforms. His ranking emblem is on the crest of his right shoulder denoting Directorship.
He has no mating experience and never thought of sexual issues before having had no social contact with females outside of work.
He is a Initiate.

Roland - Aged 27
Academician of Sociology and Applied Psycho-history
G.A.D.C
Scientist in the fields of Sociology and Applied Psycho-history
Author of Federation Holovision book called "A short future history of the Federation."

Jacqui read the details for the umpteenth time.
They had some interests in common and both members of the G.A.D.C.
She could almost see the reason for them being matched, but beyond that … she couldn’t help but be concerned by the difference in age and experience. Keying her security number in and shutting down the interactive data base, Catherine turned, leaving the bay earlier than she had intended, admitting to herself that she was eager for a first glance of her new mate, the partner who had been selected as her most recent genetic match.

It seemed forever since she had spent any extended length of time in one place, having just completed a 6 month assignment involving constant travel to foster relations between some of the more far flung colonies. It would be good to be in one place, to be located back at the central base. One of the advantages of the “breeding programme” was that she would have time to relax and have access to those facilities that had become a luxury since her recent travels.

She enjoyed her job, excelled at it, after all her life had been training in preparation for her service to the system. But what could be more important than securing a future generation of purely bred individuals to be raised and trained to fill such high offices as were necessary to ensure the continuance of the race and civilisation as it had become? Even so she had to admit to herself it was a chance to take time out of a busy professional schedule, a chance she had not expected would come again.

As she made her way gracefully through a myriad of corridors, Jacqueline thought briefly of the two children she had borne already and who were being raised in the state nurseries. Perhaps this would provide the opportunity for her to resume some contact with them once more.

She thought fondly of those early days:
Her first mate had taught Jacqui much about the Federation and duty and expectations. He was driven by duty and had had spent many months guiding and teaching before attempting to impregnate her. He returned to his duties shortly after the birthing and left her to move into the transitional family unit. She had been able to remain with her son until he was 18 months old and then she two had left Hal to the care of the State Nurseries. Jacqui had thought she knew what to expect when she was recalled just under 3 years later. Her second mate had been the opposite of her first: He had shown her so much about emotions and bonds and had unexpectedly shared her bed throughout the pregnancy and beyond. Even now hen still took an active interest in their daughter, Zianne’s development.

Both men had made a great impression on Jacqui, making her eager to juggle the demands of motherhood and career. Seeing them as equal responsibilities, Jacqui hit upon an ideal solution and managed to get herself a research assignment. Being able to work from one base allowed her to remain in constant touch with her young daughter and enabled her to re-establish contact with her growing son.

For almost 2 years Jacqui's professional and family duties were finely balanced, until one day she was ordered to take on the first of many assignments that took her away from her children for months at a time. Although the initial wrench was difficult to bear, it gave Jacqui the perfect opportunity to step back and allow the State System to take over the full responsibility for training her pedigree offspring in preparation for their role in future society.

Jacqui rapidly re-established her career.
She determinedly threw herself into her work and attained honours as a skilled Diplomat.
Perhaps that was why this summons had been so unexpected.
Jacqueline had assumed that her expertise was most valuable within the G.A.D.C and yet it seemed that the Federation had different priorities!

Jacqui came to a sudden halt, realising that she had arrived at the entrance to her future mate’s quarters. She stood nervously preparing herself for their meeting. First meetings were notoriously awkward. This has been arranged in his quarters, as was the norm to allow Initiates to be on “home territory” for this momentous occasion.

Taking a deep breath, Jacqui keyed her code into the security pad outside his doorway watching as the interface sprang to life and passed on her identity and her request for permission to enter Roland’s quarters.

Roland had read the brief on his future mate over ten times, losing count. He gleaned from the short brief that they had some commonality and this included that they worked at the same Department but never together, and that she shared some of his interests especially in Psychology and Civilisation. On one hand, Roland was glad they had been matched up with interests similar than being matched with someone he had no common interests with other than physical features.

He finally put down the breif and looked at the time. Jacqueline was due to arrive very shortly and Roland was dressed in his most smart eloquent clothing. Roland was nervous and anxious but at the same time his will to carry out his pre-ordained duty to the Federation overided his own concern. To serve the system in anyway possible was what all citizens of the Federation should ammount to. Now that the federation had thrust upon him the rite of mating, under the guise of the 'Genesis Project', who was he to refuse? Not that Roland would, his aim was to do whatever the system desired of him.

Without a sense of duty, what would a citizen of the Federation ammount to? Nothing, inconsequensual.

His future mate was Jacqueline Marsaut older than him and way more experienced. Roland was nervous, he wanted to do his duty but he also wanted to experience the act and please the woman he would be with. He only hoped he would. To that end, time would only tell.

Standing up he stretched, de-tensing his muscles which were bunched up in anticipation. He listened to the soft music playing in the background, some 'Federati Philharmonicae', a current hit with the Federation populace.

Suddenly a chime sounded and his home computer spoke through the chiming music. "Director, Jacqueline Marsaut has arrived, security and validation has been passed. Would you like me to let Consultant Marsaut enter?"

"No, I will manually open the door to my guest, but thankyou Sade," Roland answered. The music returned and Roland breathed in deeply and walked slowly to the door. Making sure his clothing was fixed and uncreased, his hand fell on the lever that would open the door and pressed it.

The door slid upwards and the soft curvacious form of Jacqueline Marsaut stood awaiting him. For a long moment it seemed that time stood still as he took in her frame and he liked what he saw. His face broke out into a smile and he said softly. "Welcome Ms Marsaut, I am Roland and it is finally a pleasure to meet.....such...a stunning lady like yourself. Come in."

Roland stepped away from the door and watched as Jacqueline stepped in, but Roland could only feel the beatings of his overworking heart and the rushing noises and heat to his ears. He awaited her first words.

It was indeed a pleasure to serve the system, he thought to himself.

Jacqueline looked up in surprise to see the young man standing at the other side of the panel as it slid open. Her eyes moved slowly over him taking in his youthful and handsome appearance. Belatedly she realised that he was subjecting her to the same scrutiny. As their eyes met, she was pleased to see his welcoming smile and met it with one of her own.

"Welcome Ms Marsaut,”

Despite the polite formality, everything about him suggested a warm and genuine young man.

”I am Roland and it is finally a pleasure to meet.....such...a stunning lady like yourself. Come in."

Jacqueline nodded in acknowledgement of the compliment and was secretly reassured that he seemed appreciative of her appearance.

As Roland moved away from the door, Jacqueline stepped into his quarters, not quite managing to prevent herself from gazing curiously around the room in an unconscious attempt to get any early clues about this man’s personality. Turning to face him as he closed the door panel, she spoke softly.

”It’s so good to put a face to the name and the scant details the Federation provide for us isn’t it?”

Her eyes watched his to try to assess how he felt about the “Genesis Project” and about her as an intended mate.

”These first meetings are always so … awkward … on both sides … “

She blushed disarmingly as she spoke, wondering if he realised that she was almost as nervous and uncertain as he must be.

”I’m looking forward to getting to know you better Roland, but please call me Jacqui though, or Jacqueline if you prefer.”

She invited, her eyes searching his once more.
She wondered if Roland would ask questions, questions about herself, or the project. She remembered how as an initiate she had been so overawed by her first mate that she had hardly dared question him. It was he instead who had set the agenda for their first conversation. In fact he had very much taken control and guided her safely through the whole process, she remembered fondly.

Jacqui was as yet unsure just how to proceed with this initiation.
She knew an accurate assessment of Roland's experience and readiness to fulfil his genetic duties was essential. After all, every coupling, especially a first, could not only influence one’s sense of duty and expand one’s sexuality depending on the match. She blushed as she caught herself speculating on how sexually experienced Roland was and awaited for him to invite her to be seated, or make some other suggestion as to how they might spend the time allocated to their first meeting.

As Roland was scrutinising Jacqueline Marsaut as she entered, he also realised that she too was eyeing himself. Roland realised that Jacqueline as well had never seen himself before and she too wanted to ascertain what he was about. It was only natural under these circumstances.

He continued to smile as Jacqueline entered his residence, noting to himself how nervous he was. Roland could feel his palms moist with perspiration. What he did glean from his first look at Jacqueline was that she was very attractive and the 'feel' of Jacqueline was that she was a kind, considerate and genuine lady.

As he closed the door panel behind him and turned to Jacqueline, Roland finally heard her speak;

”It’s so good to put a face to the name and the scant details the Federation provide for us isn’t it?”

For when Roland heard her speak, he was momentarily and pleasantly thunderstruck by the soft melodical femininity of her voice that actually melted him on the inside. Jacqueline was sexy to listen to.

"Yes Ms Marsaut....I agree with you there," he replied, hoping his nervousness didnt show through his voice.

”These first meetings are always so … awkward … on both sides … “

Roland simply nodded and as he gazed at her face, he saw the blushes permeate along Jacqueline's face. Glad, I'm not the only nervous person in this first meeting, he though to himself relieved somewhat.

”I’m looking forward to getting to know you better Roland, but please call me Jacqui though, or Jacqueline if you prefer.”

He sighed relieved as they continued to look at each other, measuring each other, Roland knew what he heard and what he saw from Jacqueline he found very appealing and interesting. "Thankyou Jacqui, I prefer the two names, so I hope you don't mind me calling you those two names intermitantly? I also look forward to getting to know you better Jacqueline."

Roland was feeling in more control of his emotions and senses as the calm soft lilac sounding soothing voice of Jacqui calmed him. He continued speaking;

"May I offer you a drink. Sade my home computer interface makes one very nice Irish Coffee, or anything you wish to have." Maybe he was being unfront but he stepped closer to her and smiled softly at Jacqui. "I wanted you to know that this is new to me. I hope I can make our times together pleasurable and enjoyable for you. So what would you like for a drink? I am sorry, I have not offered you a seat...."

Roland slid his arm softly brushing along her waist, trying to sound confident, guiding her to a plush Federation emblem designed couch duplex. "Have a seat whilst I get you the drink of your choice, Jacqui"

Roland hoped he had not made a complete clutz of himself and awaited a responce from Jacqueline.

Jacqui smiled into his eyes and nodded in agreement. She was looking forward to getting to know this young man. He was well mannered, charming even: Certainly more confident than she had been on the first meeting.

"May I offer you a drink. Sade my home computer interface makes one very nice Irish Coffee, or anything you wish to have."

It had been a while since she had indulged in an Irish Coffee. Jacqui considered what she might select.

"I wanted you to know that this is new to me. I hope I can make our times together pleasurable and enjoyable for you.”

Jacqueline looked up at his earnest face. As the more experienced it was mainly her responsibility to make the match successful. Was he trying to tell her that he was experienced enough to satisfy a woman sexually … or was he trying to tell her the reverse … he had said this was new to him. Did he mean the programme or… sexual relations?
She couldn’t quite decide how experienced she believed Roland to be …

”So what would you like for a drink? I am sorry; I have not offered you a seat.... Have a seat whilst I get you the drink of your choice, Jacqui" "

Jacqui allowed Roland to steer her to the couch and settled back with an appreciative murmur.

”This is very comfortable Roland, I think I’ll have an Irish coffee as you recommend it … “

She saw him smile and watched him move to his interface.

”I’m sure we’ll get along fine, Roland. It’s always a bit of a wrench to be taken out of usual duties to take part in the programme … and as an initiate … I remember that it was all very new and even frightening … “

She gave an embarrassed laugh as she accepted her drink.

”Looks wonderful…”

Taking a slow sip and then licking her lips, Jacqui smiled up at Roland.

”Lovely … thank you … “

She gestured the sofa beside her and turned her body to face him as he sat.

”I have to admit … I hadn’t forseen that they would call me up again … I thought that … “

She broke off and sipped at her drink.

”What about you? Was this expected? Or are you as shocked as I was the first time?”

She dimpled a conspiratorial grin at Roland wondering how honest he’d be with her.

Roland

”This is very comfortable Roland, I think I’ll have an Irish coffee as you recommend it … “

Roland nodded at Jacqueline's request. He was pleased that she had taken his offered recommendation. He smiled still a little nervous and turned moving over to the interface so that he could request the home computer Sade to constitute an Irish Coffee. Personally for Roland, it was his favourite drink, after a long day working for the System he would come home and have one to relax.

He listened on as Jacqueline continued to talk. ”I’m sure we’ll get along fine, Roland. It’s always a bit of a wrench to be taken out of usual duties to take part in the programme … and as an initiate … I remember that it was all very new and even frightening … “

As she finished speaking, the Irish Coffee materialised within the interface matriculation chamber. Roland handled the mug carefully as it was very warm and turned toward Jacqueline as she laughed softly. "There you go Jacqueline," he said with a wider smile. Roland's demeaner lessed as his nervousness at this point had somewhat calmed.

”Lovely … thank you … “

Roland's smile did not waver but widened when Jacqueline tasted the Coffee. He saw her patting the space next to her on the emblem crested couch and he moved over sitting beside her, not to close and Roland felt his nervousness increasing again. When Jacqueline turned her frame to face him, Roland could not help but give her another glance up and down with his eyes. By the Ancients, she is beautiful, he inwardly said to himself. He simply said nothing outwardly waiting for Jacqueline to say something further.

”I have to admit … I hadn’t forseen that they would call me up again … I thought that … “

Roland knew that Jacqueline was much more experienced than he was, this was not new to her. But for Roland, this was new, this first meeting of what would become a mating couple. Would it be successful? Only time would tell.

”What about you? Was this expected? Or are you as shocked as I was the first time?”

Roland listened to Jacqueline's question and didn't answer immediately but thought of his answer, knowing it was a preamble, that Jacqueline was through his answers sizing him up.

"Really Jacqueline, this is totally new to me, I don't know if you were given my file as I was given yours to get to know your basics, but I was expecting at this point in my life to be called to duty for the Federation. I was shocked initially and nervous and anxious as I am still alittle. You see Jacqui, you're experienced, I totally am not. I just hope I don't mess anything up. For duty is important to me, as well as making sure you are happy and satisfied."

He breathed in deeply and evenly looked into the eyes of Jacqueline, hoping she would appreciate his candid answer. The silence between them dragged into seconds.

Jacqui sipped at her drink and nodded sympathetically. She could easily understand his feelings.

”You see Jacqui, you're experienced, I totally am not.”

Jacqui did a double take. Was he telling her …?

”I just hope I don't mess anything up.
For duty is important to me, as well as making sure you are happy and satisfied."

Her mind raced. This young man was a virgin.
Without experience, not only of the programme, but of sexual relationships!
No wonder he was taken aback by all of this!
And yet despite it all, he was concerned about doing the right thing and giving her pleasure.
She put down her drink and reached out a hand to touch his arm, wanting to reassure and not scare him.

”Roland … there’s no right or wrong … nothing to mess up …”

She searched his eyes knowing it would take time for him to believe her.

”The fact you’ve not done this before … any of this … just means we may need to go more slowly … “

She smiled warmly unable not to let her mind wander to the time when they would become intimate.

”But to be honest, I prefer not to rush things.
For me it’s the bonding, the establishing a relationship that is the most important. That’s what would make me happy and satisfied.”

She picked up her drink again and continued to enjoy it.

”We know each other’s credentials … all the official stuff … but now you’ve told me something about yourself, is there anything you want to ask me, anything specific you want to know right now?”

It seemed only fair that Roland be given an opportunity to ask her if there was something in particular that was concerning him or that he wanted to know.
Jacqui awaited his response.

Roland

Roland rested his eyes on Jacqueline, allowing her to take in his little confession and answer to her prior question. Inwardly Roland hoped he had not come across too inexperienced. For Roland had pride and a pride that had fostered his advancement up the chains of the department. Of course, so he could better serve the system - as he was doing right now, at this very moment.

His eyes followed her hand as Jacqui put down her cup of coffee and reached out and touched him....Roland found her touch and actions reassuring. And her comment reassured him even more. ”Roland … there’s no right or wrong … nothing to mess up …The fact you’ve not done this before … any of this … just means we may need to go more slowly … “

Roland took in all Jacqueline said in responce and nodded softly. "I agree with that train of thought Jacqui," he said.

”But to be honest, I prefer not to rush things. For me it’s the bonding, the establishing a relationship that is the most important. That’s what would make me happy and satisfied.”

Roland nodded again, smiling at her thinking to himself, how much more relaxed he was with Jacqueline, now seeing and knowing how easy going she was turning out to be.

”We know each other’s credentials … all the official stuff … but now you’ve told me something about yourself, is there anything you want to ask me, anything specific you want to know right now?”

He watched as she romoved her fingers from his arm, his flesh tingling pleasantly where she had touched him. Roland was comfortable with Jacqui now. He cleared his throat and replied, a little curious;

"Yes, there is something I wanted to find out from you in person Jacqueline. What do you like to do for enjoyment, entertainment outside of your job?"

His body relaxed, now Roland felt more in control of his body and his mind.

Jacqueline Marsaut

Jacqueline sipped appreciatively at her Irish coffee as she listened to Roland’s response.

"Yes, there is something I wanted to find out from you in person Jacqueline. What do you like to do for enjoyment, entertainment outside of your job?"

Her mouth curved upwards as she mused.

”Well … as you’ll know when on assignment there is precious little free time. The nature of the job means you’re always on duty and certainly always on call … “

From her tone it was obvious that Jacqueline was not put off by the demands of her vocation, though Roland could not know that once flung back into her career once more she had relished new challenges.

”During those times I read, listen to music, work out of course … “

Again a smile and a glance down her toned figure. She was certainly curvaceous, but had a high level of stamina and fitness as her personnel file showed.

”When lodged in a settlement, I have to admit I like to be pampered … to swim, enjoy steam rooms, hot tubs and such like … but besides that it’s good to see theatre and music live rather than rely on recordings … and to just simply to be free to walk around … discover new places, explore, ... I love the sense of freedom ... of having no curfew or duty awaiting … “

She eyed Roland uncertainly not sure if he was ready for a further confession, but decided to risk it.

”And of course, I try to keep in touch with my children … when possible … they took up a lot of my time in the earlier years and even now … “

She blushed.

”I’m very old fashioned and prefer to actually maintain contact with them … “

She looked him in the eye trying to read what she saw there.

”As I’ll do with our child Roland.”

Would that declaration be too much honesty too soon, or did Roland already realise that the system’s selection of her for a third pairing and with an initiate must be due not only to her fertility and mating ability but also in no small way to her successful record of nurturing.

Roland

Roland studied Jacqueline as she answered his query. He was personally pleased that she appreciated the Irish Coffee and his initial first impressions of his future 'mate' was one of positivity. He felt more and more comfortable around Jacqueline, even though this was officially their first meeting. All that Roland hoped, was that he would not botch up their assignment.

”Well … as you’ll know when on assignment there is precious little free time. The nature of the job means you’re always on duty and certainly always on call … “

Roland nodded, agreeing with Jacqueline in that comment. He knew first hand that he had little if none free time for himself, his work, his active duty to the Federation took up all his waking time, and he had no problem with that. He loved to serve the system, in any way. Alas, serving the system in this particular endeavour was new to him but Roland pledged to himself that he'd do his best. Roland was pleased that Jacqueline felt a similar way.

”During those times I read, listen to music, work out of course … “

Roland simply smiled softly at her further answer. He loved to read, and listen and even compose music just before bed each night. That was all the free time he had and he filled it with reading of archaic books and contemporary music.

Roland's eyes again met Jacqueline's, they definitely had connected on some small level during this first meeting and he was glad. It was better to serve the system with someone he was comfortable with than without the comfort. It all came down to how they felt with each other in the end, when it all mattered.

”And of course, I try to keep in touch with my children … when possible … they took up a lot of my time in the earlier years and even now …I’m very old fashioned and prefer to actually maintain contact with them …As I’ll do with our child Roland.”

Roland felt the same way, when their union would result in a conception, he wanted to be damned sure to keep in contact with his offspring.

"I feel the same way, Jacqueline. I want to keep in touch with our child as well. Even if I am just an initiate, I still will be responsible as wisdom dictates"

He smiled at her, happy that their first meeting was off to a good start.
