Charlie Harrison was proud of his accomplishments. He had started with nothing, been a poor kid from Indianapolis rough quarters. Now at 36 years of age, he was the owner of a successful business. Sole owner since the companies founder, Harvey Klemet had retired and lived well in south California. If Charlie hadn't peaked yet, he had at least reached 80 procent of what he had planned.
Klemet-Harrisons office didn't look like the shabby places where the movie and novel private investigators had their base. These rooms on the fifth floor in a five floor building on a quiet street in Costa Mesa was both comfortable and tastefully decorated.
The reception gave new customers a positive first impression. On the floor lay a soft carpet and the walls was dressed with sea weed tapestry. The furniture was new and of good quality.
It was a good place to work and business was blossoming. Charlie had plenty of men and women in his pay and they were rarely out of work. Usually the work consisted of infidelity checks and insurance frauds. Often the most boring jobs brought the most profits.
Charlie had a feeling that things was about to change though. When first he met Christine Scavello he knew that things would change.
