I notice a few sites as I surf around are now doing this.

No not the traditional cookies that we are all used to but actually programs.

The ones I notice the most are "the Movie Networks" INSTANT ACCESS DIALER

These are a pain in the kiaser role.

They should have to ask witha prompt permission to so such.

I have turned off everythign and put security on high, zone alarm fire walls , mcAffee and norton antivirus and it still loads in its a tiny dial up file usually less than 100k

but a pain nonethe less

anyone else having troubles with these?

Turning cookies off may extend to files of this type but obviously screws up the performance of many sites.

good sugestion, but it doesn't/didn't seem to work :(

thanks anyways

I think a website did that to me, because I had two porn dialers on my computer. Either that or my dad downloaded them.

And now I have a $30 phone bill for 1 minute of a 900 number and of course, I can't get ahold of the phone company.

This is a bad thing - some of those do some nefarious crap like dialing overseas or 900 numbers when you access the net. I don't know how to prevent them as I thought you had to agree to downloading them, but they have obviously found a way around that.

downloads

I got stuck with a $94 phone bill and I don't download 900 crap ever! And, of course, AT & T won't answer their phone when I try to contact them. Lines are always busy -- even at 3 o'clock in the morning.

Thats the same thing for me, and I also have AT&T.

I have also had problems with this as well as adding shit into my favorites. so just another thing to watch out for.

We were having trouble with that too, fortunately, our connection is cable, no phone lines even attached to the computer so it always downloaded the stupid things, then gave an error msg. saying it couldn't get a connection. It was still annoying to have to remove their little programs.

We found PopUpKiller on a tech website. It actually closes all of the pop up windows before you see them. We haven't had that problem since installing PUK, as most of the time the download comes on a pop up and the program shoots it down before it has a chance to install. If anyone is interested, I will find the web page where I downloaded PUK and post it.

Download Ad Aware from download.com. Whenever you run it , it removes all that BS software from your PC. It's safe and free.

Thanks Miles

Hey, Thanks Miles down loaded this program and it took all the BS and Porn out of my system. The down side is all I have left is an old Pong game. Oh well... think of all the future trash I can load up befor I run Ad Aware..

Seriously it did help me dump a bunch of BS, so thanks.
